AND WE ARE BACK!!!!
We are happy to share students who made a transition over the last week are settling in well. It's great to see your children meet new friends and re-unite with old friends. Our staff have enjoyed investing in the routines and relationships that bring the learning in their classrooms – at school and online - to life.
Similar to last fall, we will not be able to have in-person conferences this winter. Please keep a lookout for communication from your child’s teacher. They will be looking to find a time that will work for a conversation about your child’s learning progress – at school and online.
One way our entire learning community is coming together this winter is through Panthers for a Purpose, a focus of the Panther Foundation to support the Weekend Food Pack program that provides food to students who need it over weekends and break. Challenge #1 raised food and pennies for the program. Get ready for Challenge #2! February 1-14 and we challenge you to show your Panther spirit – whether you are learning at school or at home! Wear SLP gear or colors in support of Panthers for a Purpose (see more info in the newsletter).
Parent Pick-Up for grades 2-4
Our dismissal and pick-up process continues to run smoothly. Thank you! This process is a team effort. To make this run even more effectively, please follow these guidelines:
- If the pick-up area is overflowing, please form a “car line” that wraps onto 76th Ave NE.
- Please do not “cut in line.” If there is a car line, please head towards the back of the line.
- If you do not see someone call your number, it has not been called.
- When pulling into the lot, please continue to move as far forward as you can. Please do not stop immediately when you see your child but rather continue to pull forward.
- Want to avoid congestion and U-turns? Drive down Van Buren St NE to 75th Ave NE and come back down Able St NE to 76th Ave NE.
- When your number is called, your child’s name and number light up in the classroom. This happens instantly after the number is called. If it is taking longer than expected, it is most likely your child making sure they have all their stuff.
Health and Safety for In-Person Learning
For families of students who have returned to learning at school, we want to keep the health and safety of your children, our staff, and the community at the front of our minds. We all need to be prepared for more classroom or program-level decisions on quarantine as we respond appropriately to health concerns that may arise. Here are a few important details regarding health and safety for the Woodcrest community:
- When a student exhibits COVID-19 symptoms that would warrant isolation and potentially testing or a student tests positive for COVID-19, we will consult with MDH and, if necessary, we will begin contact tracing for that student.
- Since elementary students are organized in classrooms or pods that are socially distanced at a minimum of three feet, in many cases contact tracing will not be possible and quarantine decisions will likely impact the entire class.
- We’ll communicate with impacted staff, students and their parents/guardians about the specific instance.
- Any full classroom needing to be quarantined will transition to Extended Flexible Learning (distance learning) for the duration of the quarantine.
- If a child is on quarantine and not a whole class, a model to support the continuation of their learning will come from the teacher.
- Should you hear of a student or staff member having COVID-19 and you haven’t been contacted, you’re considered at no higher risk than any other person and you should continue with your regular routine.
- Please continue to screen for symptoms at home and communicate health concerns to our school nurse through the health office.
I continue to feel a deep sense of gratitude to our staff, students and each of you. This transition was a success because of the commitment and partnership between us all. It is another testament to JUNTOS ES MEJOR! BETTER TOGETHER.
Grateful to be a part of Woodcrest,
John Franke
Change to times and locations for free meal pick-up
Starting Tuesday, February 2, the times and community distribution locations for Spring Lake Park Schools' free meal pick-up will change. We will still continue to provide a bagged breakfast and lunch option to all children ages 1-18 at no cost.
We will continue to distribute free meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays at locations throughout the community. On Tuesdays, families will receive two-days’ worth of meals. On Thursdays, families will receive three-days’ worth of meals.
Students and families should visit the website for updated information and to find the interactive map of the distribution locations.
Input requested: Learning options for 2021-2022
During this very unusual school year, we've had the opportunity to learn in several different models. As a result, some students and families have discovered that online learning works well for them. Others have found a mixture of learning at school and at home helpful to their learning and their lives. Others discovered a preference for "live" learning and still others have preferred learning to be available "on-demand" and when it fits with their schedules.
As Spring Lake Park Schools designs learning options for the 2021-2022 school year, we'd like to hear from you about what you've valued and would like to see continued in some way. Please provide your input in a very brief survey, by Monday, February 1.
Thank you for sharing your insight and helping us continue to provide options to meet your learner's and your family's needs.
