Test Driving a New Format

The Bushey Bulletin

Life Long Learning by Example

After the kids left on Friday, I had the privilege of attending some great professional development sessions. I started the afternoon by facilitating a discussion on two articles about "High Stakes Testing,"* then a session on googledocs, and finally a session on a site called smore. All three sessions were current, useful, and topical.

With the focus on "High Stakes Testing" in education, the articles and the conversation were informative and thought provoking (I've included the links below in case you're interested). Next, I went to a session on using googledocs in the classroom. I spent the weekend typing up the "Kindness Comments" for Valentine's Day using googledocs, and found it very user friendly. I hope to use googledocs when we type up our Argumentative Essays. I believe it will make conferencing, comments, and revision that much more effective. And finally, the last session was on using a site called smore.com, where I learned to produce a class newsletter (I'm using it right now). I'll be interested in your feedback about the newsletter format. My plan is to do either the newsletter, or the blog, to communicate what's happening in our classroom. Feel free to let me know which you prefer in the comments section below.

All in all, the afternoon was a great opportunity for us to be able to learn what's new, useful, and topical. Please know that it was an afternoon well spent, as I'm sure your kids will say the same thing :-).

Now if we could just get this snow to stop!

All the best,

Mrs. Bushey
