Spiritual Adoption Program
Welcome to the Spiritual Adoption Program!
Praying for the Living and the Dead
This program falls under the Spiritual Work of Mercy of praying for the living and the dead. As Catholics, we are called to honor and respect life in all of its stages, from conception to natural death. We give dignity and respect when we pray for the dead in solemnity and humility as they are commended to God. We are called to respect the dead "with respect and charity, in faith and hope of the Resurrection" (Catechism of the Catholic Church).
This special program has two particular intentions:
1) Through intercessory prayer, we are praying for the children who have died through the greatest threat and evil to human life in our modern day society: abortion.
2) We are praying for new life. Each one of you has spiritually adopted a child by name to pray for 40 days, to represent the 40 weeks of development and growth of the unborn child.
The bracelet or keychain you made with the child's first initial is a daily reminder to pray for these intentions. Every Sunday of the program, until its end on May 1st, you will receive an email on the growth of the child you have adopted. These emails will also serve as a way of keeping you accountable to the commitment you have made to pray these 40 days.
God bless you all this Holy Week, and in the beginning of the program.
