Brightening the Halls at BGHS!
From Mrs. Cooley . . .
"Over the past few weeks, the downstairs hallways have been undergoing an update. This year, the National Honor Society selected the improvement of the hallway appearance as their one project to do here at the school for their service requirements (and three for the community - Toys for Tots, Pennies for Patients, and Operation Gratitude). Given the student-driven nature of NHS projects, they worked closely with Mrs. Walters to develop a plan that will improve the appearance of the halls and encourage awareness of the social-emotional skills that are our current focus.
The students elected to give an average of 15 hours per student of their fall break to begin the process and have now completed the work.
I am so proud to be leading this group of senior leaders. They conceived of a way to improve their school, leave a legacy of school spirit, and speak to the social-emotional needs of the student body! And while we know it has taken longer than we anticipated, I am thrilled they have worked so hard to ensure the project finished well."
Congratulations, team! The hallways look fantastic!

Toys for Tots Toy Drive
Junior Achievement BizTown
Our 5th graders attended the program on November 17 and 18.
Our younger students are not old enough to drive, work, vote, or be the boss. But that doesn't stop them from operating banks, managing restaurants, writing checks, and voting for mayor at JA BizTown! The program combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to this fully-interactive simulated town facility. The program helps students connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world. Half of our 5th graders attended on November 17; the other half on November 18.
The photos below highlight the two days students participated in BizTown.

Fall Campout with Cub Scout Pack 108
Cub Scout Pack 108 of Beech Grove traveled to Cary Camp in Lafayette, Indiana, where they did an overnight campout. Some Scouts stayed in the Cabin, and some slept in tents and earned the Polar Bear award for camping out with temperatures below freezing. The scouts also visited Wolf Park on a Saturday night to see wolves and learn about them. The boys played games, hiked the camp, and made popsicle-stick catapults.
Boys can join Cub Scouts at any point in the year. For more information, visit the Pack's website at www.cubpack108.com.
