Parent and Student Newsletter: December 10, 2020
Belvidere Elementary
Principal's Note
Thank you to everyone who donated to our families in need. The kids have had some fun dressing up and we have raised some great funds!
We are entering our last week before winter break, but this year is a little different. It is NOT the end of the semester. Our semester actually ends on January 20th. We have a lot of learning to do this week and the few weeks after break to wrap up a great 1st semester.
If your student has any at home testing next week or after break, please remember you may not help them! I know it is hard to watch if they struggle, but tests show us what they have and have not mastered. Teachers use these results to guide their teaching and help students move forward. If a parent helps or a student uses the internet to find an answer, we think they have mastered something when they haven't. Teachers then move forward instead of making sure students understand the current standards. This will cause a student to be even more confused in the future!
Please remember, if you haven't already, to fill out the survey to make your educational choice for your student for second semester - it is due Tomorrow, Friday, December 11!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Virtual/Blended Options Survey
As we prepare for the second semester of the 2020-2021 school year, we would like you to once again select a learning option for your child by filling out the form below. Please fill out a separate form for each child by Friday, December 11. Families will choose from the same two options as in this first semester. Students will remain in the option indicated on this form through the end of the school year. If you do not choose a preference you will remain in your current placement through the end of the year.
Distance Learning Option:
Distance Learning is for parents who choose for their student(s) to not attend any face-to-face classes. All coursework and instruction for the Distance Learning option will be delivered virtually via the Canvas Learning Management System. Students in this option must remain in this option until at least the end of the school year.
Blended/In-Person Option:
Blended Learning is a combination of both in-person and distance learning and provides for a seamless transition from face-to-face learning to a virtual learning environment.
Instruction in the Blended Learning option is delivered face-to-face when appropriate and electronically via the Canvas Learning Management System when students are not present for in-person instruction.
Winter Parties
We will have small winter parties this year for students! We want to have fun with a few safety parameters.
Snacks/drinks can be sent in to help the students celebrate. However, each snack must be individually wrapped and store bought. Parents may drop snacks off at the front window. Please see teacher requests to know if they are wanting snacks for this celebration. Some teachers may be planning a different kind of party. Please no snacks or candy with nuts!

Daycare Assistance
Below is a Missouri notice that childcare subsidy is currently available to help working parents of school-age children pay for full-day childcare on days their children’s school is not in-person. It is also available for up to 90 days for parents looking or work. Parents must apply before December 31, 2020 using one of the following options:
- The best place to apply is online: https://apps.dss.mo.gov/fmwBenefitCenter/Account/SignInInfo.aspx.
- Paper application is also available: https://dss.mo.gov/fsd/child-care.htm
Applying online gives parents the ability to know the status of their application at any time. It helps ensure the documents uploaded are connected to their case, even if there is not clearly identifying information on it. It avoids the challenges encountered when connecting through the phone system.
(LINC/MARC can also help grandparents or other home-based providers get registered to receive state payment. It’s a lot to do but we can help them through it.)
I have attached a copy of the printer-friendly flier. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thanks,
