CiTi BOCES Fine Arts Updates - March / April
End of the Year Requests
We are soon approaching the end of the school year! We wanted to be sure that you all were aware of deadlines and end the year procedures for Arts in Education/Exploratory Enrichment requests. Please share this with your requestors and if at any time you have any questions please reach our @ artsined@citiboces.net
- DEADLINE FOR ALL REQUESTS is NOW MAY 5th. This is to allow us to meet the CiTi purchase order deadline. We also want to be certain that we have time to attend to your end of the year requests and get your vendors paid timely.
- Please be extra careful filling in the requests with complete, accurate information as mistakes slow the process down and at this time of year we do not have a great deal of turnaround time left.
- REMINDER: We cannot process requests for the 23-24 school year until July. We will be disabling the requests forms May 5th and we will let you know when the forms are reopened for the new school year. Please do not submit 23-24 requests until the forms and spreadsheets are cleared out and ready for 23-24; otherwise, they will have to be resubmitted.
Join CiTi Boces Arts-in-Ed for a great day full of live performances from nationally known artists such as "Galumpha", "Altman Science", "Ball in the House", "Tim Collins", "The Junkman", and "Jared Campbell" and more. Also, get a chance to connect with local artist vendors such as The Red House, Le Moyne Gifford Theatre, Museum of Intrigue, Syracuse Opera, and more!

Fine Arts Learning Communities!
Purpose: Building on this year’s Fine Arts Curriculum Community success, we are excited to share our expanded community offerings for the 2023-2024 school year. These targeted communities will provide Fine Arts teachers the ability to collaborate with other like professionals (ie, middle school band, high school media arts, musical theater director) from across the region to take part in collaborative conversation, learning, sharing, and creation. These communities will provide focused support to those teachers that are often “on an island” and provide them with collaborative learning opportunities that they wouldn’t otherwise have. Dates: Communities will meet 3 times a year. Teachers will have the ability to sign up for just one session or all three. We design the communities to be flexible as we know the life of a Fine Arts educator and changes that happen during the different seasons of the year. Community dates will take place late September-October, January-February, April-Beginning of May. As we wait for state testing and school district calendars to come out, we will provide final dates by the end of this year.
Communities will be:
- Fine Arts Curriculum Community
- Elementary Art Community
- Middle School Art Community
- Media Arts Community
- 2D Arts Community
- 3D Arts Community
- Theater Arts Community
- Developing Instrumental Community (grades 4-8)
- Secondary Instrumental Community (grades 9-12)
- General Music (grades K-6)
- Secondary General Music (grades 7-12)
- Developing Choral Community (grades 5-8)
- Secondary Choral Community (grades 9-12)
- Music Literacy Community
IAAP Applications
I am reaching out and let you know that Individual Arts Assessment Pathway (IAAP) applications are now available on the NYSED Business Portal. These applications will be open until August 1, 2023, and like the Seal of civic readiness, there is also an optional application for any BOCES interested in offering the pathway. Applications are delegated to Superintendents, who in turn, can delegate the application to appropriate staff to complete. I am hosting a series of short drop-in meetings for folks who have any questions about the application process. I’ve listed the dates, times, and zoom links below. Additionally, all our implementation guides and professional development modules have been updated with information on the new streamlined application process and include additional description of the high school performance indicators in the Arts Learning Standard. Please let me know if you have any questions. Approved pilot schools do not need to reapply. More information is forthcoming, but please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions in the meantime.

Below is an updated IAAP PowerPoint from the Broome-Tioga Presentation on IAAP from David Seligman. There is also the links to the Visual Arts, Media Arts, and Music IAAP Implementation guide. Please reach out to Will or CJ if you have questions on these documents or would like to know more about the processes for setting up for school for applying or organizing information for implementation in 2024.

Art Discovery Boxes: Using Art to Support Content Area Instruction
Raise your hand if you love making things, building things with blocks, or just want to try something different!
Art Discovery Boxes are a unique spin on problem-solving that any teacher can use to enhance their curriculum individually or -- better yet! -- in collaboration with your Art teacher to enhance both of your content areas! Ann Reichlin, an Ithaca based sculptor, will introduce the Art Discovery Boxes and discuss ways they are currently being used in our region. Elementary, secondary, and STEAM teachers are all encouraged to attend. Consider attending with a team from your campus since there will be time to collaborate and experiment with a variety of tools. BONUS- Each district team will receive a sample kit to help build their first Art Discovery lesson!
The registration fee for employees of TST Region districts (Candor, Dryden, George Jr. Republic, Groton, Ithaca, Lansing, Newfield, Trumansburg, and South Seneca) is $50.
The registration fee for all other participants is $100.
