Students Choose Charity . . .
While we often support efforts of staff and students as they relate to our community – Snack Pack Project, Operation Santa, Sandy Hook Relief efforts, etc . . . . we have decided that our main focus as a school would be on one main charity chosen by the student population. Early this week it was announced that the American Cancer Society was voted in as our school-wide charity. Future staff “Jean Days,” profits from the school store, funds from our “Walk for a Cause,” as well as other endeavors will go directly to the American Cancer Society.
I would like to give a special thank you to Mrs. Walls and the 6th grade PEN students (Amanda Malizia, Mason Zeo, Tanner Valentine, Kian Watkins, Gavin Cuff, Ben Friend, Brian Madden, Emma Crandall, Kimberly Hua & Michael Cannon). They chose our two final charities, and created fact sheets, power points and videos/commercials for the teachers to use in educating the students prior to the vote. Thank you everyone!!!
Internet Safety - Presentation for Parents . . .
Special Agent McCoy of the PA Office of the Attorney General has previously presented to our 5th & 6th grade students. She shares true and compelling stories regarding students as victims of internet predators as well as those who have found themselves behind bars because of online bullying/threats. We are fortunate to have agents like Special Agent McCoy whose job it is to educate our children and parents regarding the dangers of the internet. Please join us on Tuesday, January 29th at 7:00 PM for a very informative and powerful presentation.
PSSA Writing Field Test . . .
As part of changes in the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment, a writing ‘field test’ will be administered to third, fourth, and fifth grade students across Pennsylvania in February. The Department of Education is using this Writing Field Test to select items that best match new state standards and will be used in future assessments. Students will be encouraged to do their best as they complete this assessment, but no test scores or other data will be received by schools or parents. The test is scheduled to take place on February 5th and will take most students 90 minutes to complete. To minimize the time needed by schools to complete this assessment, no make-up sessions will need to be completed for students absent on the day of testing.
Lafferty Test Drive For Education . . .
On February 5th, 6th & 7th Titus Elementary will partner with Lafferty Chevrolet for the 14th year in the Lafferty Test Drive for Education. Come take a ride in one of Lafferty’s beautiful new cars while supporting Titus Elementary School. Lafferty Chevrolet with make a donation to Titus for every test drive (one driver per household). The money raised will go to fund our Summer Basic Skills Reading Program. Also Lafferty Chevrolet will sponsor special celebrations for those classrooms which produce the most drivers – 1st place will receive a pizza party, 2nd place will receive an ice cream sundae party & 3rd place will watch a movie with popcorn.
