Carus School News
Hello Carus Community,
Don't forget to change your clocks this weekend! We 'fall back' and hopefully enjoy an extra hour of sleep on Saturday night. Please see some announcements below.

Picture Retakes
For those students who had their pictures taken already, but have yet to receive them, they have arrived and should be coming home with your students. Here again is the list of students who were affected.
Counseling Department
In the first unit of Second Steps students have been learning about growth mindset and goal setting. Students are learning to use helpful and positive thoughts when doing something difficult or when they make a mistake. This encourages them to continue trying and believing in themselves. Here are some examples of helpful thoughts:
“I can do it”
“I can try a new strategy”
“I believe in myself”
“I’ve got this”
“Mistakes help me learn”
Talk with your child about what ‘helpful thoughts’ they like to use and share the ways you have a growth mindset when you are faced with a challenge.
Here is a bulletin board we have up in our hallway to help Carus students remember to have a growth mindset.
Pedestrian Safety Tips
Before the bell rings to start the day and after the bell rings to signal its end, our schools are active with people, cars, and buses! We are thankful for our community police and fire partners and with their assistance, we’ve compiled this list of pedestrian safety reminders to help everyone stay safe during the arrival and dismissal process. Please take a look and share them with your students.
Make sure you never play, push, or shove others when you walk around traffic.
Use the sidewalk whenever possible.
Before crossing, always look left-right-left for vehicles, and don’t assume they can see you.
Everyone should watch the road/parking lot, not your phones or devices.
November Reminders
Holiday Help
Kiwanis Toy and Coin Drive starts this week! Canby School District is partnering with Canby Kiwanis to support families in need this holiday season. In place of the "Giving Tree", all schools are collecting toys, coins, and gift items for teens to be donated to the Kiwanis Club to distribute to families. If you have questions please reach out to Stacey Ackerman or Kristin Watts.
Canned Food Drive Reminder
Every year we come together to provide a Thanksgiving meal to our families in need. Each grade has been assigned certain items to donate to insure that we have all of the traditional holiday items along with some staples to carry through the season. The coins, cash and gift cards donated will be used to buy turkeys. Thank you for showing your support to our Carus Community! If you would like to request a food box please contact Stacey Ackerman staceyackerman@canby.k12.or.us or Kristin Watts kristin.watts@canby.k12.or.us
