A Message From Mr. Hinds
The Importance of Sleep
How important is a good night’s sleep? For students, it is extremely important! Studies show that a continued lack of sleep will result in poor grades, decreased concentration, irritability and leads to illness to name only a few of the consequences resulting from not receiving a solid night's sleep. It is very important that students receive an average of 8-10 hours of continuous sleep a night in order to have a productive day at school. The benefits of sleep far out weigh the consequences of not getting enough sleep. In today's society we are always busy with things that need to get done or have distractions that pull us away from the well deserved sleep that we need. However, parents and teachers must take the time to show our students and children that a solid 8-10 (more for younger children) hours of sleep is not only recommended but a necessity to be functional and productive. After speaking with many students about their sleep patterns and hearing what other teachers have to say about their concerns for their student’s lack of sleep, I felt that that a challenge should be given! It takes 21 days to form a habit. So I would like to challenge the student’s of CDS (with the help of CDS parents) to take the next 21 days and form the habit of getting a good and solid night of sleep. Simply have your student track how much sleep they are getting a night (I, personally, use a Fitbit for this purpose) for the next 21 days and see how much of a difference that it truly makes!
