Wimmer's Weekly
English IV, Writing Skills/Technical Writing, & Yearbook
Week 21 (January 29-February 2)
English IV classes have had so much fun learning about Elizabethan poetry, specifically sonnets. Last week, each class was tasked with writing a group sonnet. They came up with some great lines of iambic pentameter, and I will share those with you at the end of this newsletter.
Writing Skills/Technical Writing is trucking right along, working on addressing problem areas of the STAAR exam.
Yearbook staff is constantly working. We have our biggest deadline coming up on February 16th. We WILL be having a couple of work nights, and possibly a Saturday workday (more info on that is below).

Yearbook
Like I said in the paragraph above, we may need to have a couple of work nights and maybe even a Saturday work day. When we have a deadline this big (40 spreads) and only 12 staff members, sometimes class time is just not enough and some extra time needs to be spent perfecting the spreads that we publish. I will have more information on this as the week continues.

Class Sonnet Activity
2nd Period Class Sonnet
But why do you always have to be right?
Now when I look at you it seems so strange,
That the flame between us once burned so bright.
Every time you used to say my name
Your voice possessed a sweet musical sound.
Now I must look for love and a new game.
But every time I have played I have drowned
You always saw yourself as such a saint;
You were a king on a mountain of gold.
But now the memory of us is faint,
and when I hear your name it is no longer bold.
Our love used to seem like the perfect rhyme,
But now it is forever lost in time.
5th Period Class Sonnet
You beacon of hope, you symbol of peace!
Allow me to please thee and to take flight,
Our love is like cooking with grease.
I'll eat it up like a basket of fries!
Hundreds of miles I'll walk through the fog,
I fall to my knees as the Heaven cries.
Through the thickness of darkness I met Fate.
That journey, a new chapter of my book
Casting for thy love, won't you take the bait?
Thy love so deep, my body cold and shook,
From a distance I watched you like a star,
As Heaven waited I watched you go far.
6th Period Sonnet
Was growing like a young prosperous tree.
Soaring through the sky like an endless dove
Flying on and on 'til we hit the sea.
Our love was always on the verge to go
It may also be a revolving door.
Sometimes love brings pain, like stubbing a toe.
You always push me away more and more,
But your true colors revealed, now I'm sick.
I am climbing for your love up the wall;
Our hearts grew cold and stiff like a brick.
I'll try not to be hurt and stand so tall.
And now you just seem too much like a creep,
I'm just a person and I can't go that deep.
7th Period Sonnet
Then night came and we danced under the moon.
Now I cannot believe what you have done.
We've come this far now it's ending so soon.
At first you made love seem like a sweet cake;
You were the greatest and had the biggest heart.
You cheated now everything seems so fake.
You were unfaithful; you're not very smart.
Life with you was best when we were in love.
You broke my heart now it's time to say "bye."
Our love was simple and free like a dove.
I hate to believe it is all a lie,
I feel I've hit a gigantic brick wall.
All I want to do is give you a call.
