Chester County Science Research Competition
Seventeen Great Valley fourth and fifth grade students earned awards at the Chester County Research Science Competition (Jonas Salk Science Fair).
Foreign Language Department Award
The Great Valley High School’s World Language Department is a recipient of the PSMLA Bronze Globe Award. This is a prestigious, statewide award given to schools that provide evidence of high quality, standards-based, proficiency-oriented foreign language instruction.
Looking for Summer Camp Opportunities? We Can Help!
The Great Valley School District will offer a series of summer learning opportunities for students entering kindergarten through 12th grade next year. Students need not be enrolled in Great Valley public schools to participate (but must reside in the district). Learn more at www.gvsd.org/summerlearning.
Registration closes on May 15.
New Business Administrator Named
At its meeting on April 22, the Great Valley Board of School Directors approved a five-year contract with Charles E. Peterson, Jr., who will fill the position of director of business affairs. Peterson, who is expected to formally begin his tenure in Great Valley on July 1, will replace retiring business administrator Charles Linderman.

Financial Approvals
The Board approved:
- Chester County Intermediate Unit core budget;
- Chester County Intermediate Unit occupational education budget;
- awarding of bid for Charlestown Elementary School roof replacement;
- awarding of bid for Sugartown Elementary School roof replacement;
- awarding of bid for milk products and beverages;
- license agreement with Pickford Run HOA;
- Krapf Transportation contract addendum;
- service agreement with DecisionInsite;
- agreement for partial program placement;
- amendment to school-age day care provider contract;
- student assistance program with COAD;
- acceptance of donation to Sugartown Elementary School;
- acceptance of donation to Great Valley High School;
- shared services agreement with Montgomery County Intermediate Unit;
- special education settlement agreement;
- educational services agreement;
- dual enrollment agreement with Immaculata University;
- MOU with Chester County Intermediate Unit;
- student overnight trips.
The Board also approved the resolution adopting the preliminary budget for the 2019-2020 school year.

Speaker Series: Raising Children and Teens to Thrive in a Challenging World
Join us for a special parenting evening with Dr. Ken Ginsburg as he speaks on “Raising Children & Teens to Thrive in a Challenging World.” Dr. Ginsburg is a pediatrician specializing in Adolescent Medicine at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He also serves Philadelphia’s homeless youth as Director of Health Services at Covenant House Pennsylvania. The theme that ties together his clinical practice, teaching, research, and advocacy efforts is that of building on the strength of teenagers by fostering their internal resilience. His goal is to translate the best of what is known from research and practice into practical approaches parents, professionals and communities can use to prepare children and teens to thrive.
