Message From Principal Webb
Dear Longhorn families,
What a great week of learning! Some of my fun this week was joining in on a Kindergarten morning meeting, making positive principal phone calls, and supporting teachers in PLC meetings.
Please read carefully as this newsletter is full of new information. A few things on the calendar this week are the flu clinic at Longfellow and Picture Day on Friday!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Webb

ISASP information shared for 4th-6th grade
In the spring of 2021, children in grades 3-11 in the Iowa City Community School District completed the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP). This assessment is developed by Iowa Testing Programs at the University of Iowa, delivered and supported by Iowa-based Pearson, for the state of Iowa. The assessments are aligned with the Iowa Core standards and provide a clear and accurate assessment of student learning outcomes.
Results are now available to parents through two options:
Option 1 - Infinite Campus: To view your student's 20-21 ISASP scores, log into the Infinite Campus parent portal. Once you are logged in, click "More," then click "Assessment."
- The large numbers you see (over 300) are your child’s scaled score. You can use this document to find the percentile associated with your child’s scaled score: Iowa Percentile Ranks
- The letter indicates your child’s achievement level as Advanced (A), Proficient (P), or Not Yet Proficient (N).
- The smaller numbers (under 100) are your child’s raw score - the number they got correct on the various subtests. We hope to change these scores soon to percent correct, which will be more meaningful to parents. At that point you would be able to use this document to find the average percent correct across the state for comparison: Average Percent Correct Domain Results
Option 2 - ISASP Parent Portal*: The ISASP Parent Portal provides secure online access of individual student results to families. Families will need to first create an account for the portal and then enter the student’s name and date of birth, along with the student’s claim code, in order to access results.
- The claim code will be found in the Infinite Campus parent portal. Once you are logged in, click “More,” then click “ISASP Claim Code.”
- Please review this parent access guide to learn how to use the claim code to access your child’s online report.
- Link to parent portal: https://ia-results.pearsonaccessnext.com/login
*Please note: As determined by the state, students who completed the ISASP in spring 2021 through remote testing are not included in the final published reports and will not have a report in the parent portal.
As we know, your child’s score on this assessment is only one indication of their achievement and does not represent a complete picture of any one child. If you’d like to talk to someone about your child’s results, please contact your child’s teacher if they are in elementary school or your child’s counselor if they are in a secondary school.

Positive Principal Phone Calls

District vote
On November 2, 2021, the Iowa City Community School District will ask voters to consider the renewal of the Iowa Secure and Advanced Vision for Education Levy (SAVE) and the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL). The no new money renewal of these levies allows the District to complete the promise of FMP 1.0 and to embark on Facilities Master Plan (FMP) 2.0 with no tax increase. This extension of SAVE and PPEL also provides funding for District-wide lifecycle projects that would otherwise pull vital teaching and learning dollars from the District’s general fund. This progress would come with no increase to the current tax rate.
Our District will hold two community information sessions on the extension of PPEL and SAVE. Superintendent Matt Degner will share details about the November 2, 2021 vote and answer questions from participants. The information sessions will be held virtually on the following dates:
- Tuesday, October 5 from 5-6:00 pm
(Zoom link: https://iowacityschools-org.zoom.us/j/92800531354) - Wednesday, October 20 from 5-6:00 pm
(Zoom link: https://iowacityschools-org.zoom.us/j/92800531354)
You can learn more about our District’s plan at www.IowaCitySchools.org/FMP2.0. We appreciate your engagement in this process and please vote on November 2, 2021. #ICCSDtogether
ATTENDANCE
Please remember the importance of your student arriving on time each day. School starts at 7:50 and the tardy bell rings at 7:55. If students arrive late they must enter through the front office door. After school students need to return home to check in before playing on equipment. The BASP program has access to the playground until 6:00 pm each day after school. Any student on the playground without supervision will be sent home.
An attendance reminder: students who have more than 5 tardies, or 8-10 absences will need to have a meeting at the school to see what supports we can put in place to support school attendance.

Longfellow Elementary stands with all people of color in the fight against racial injustice and inequality. We all deserve to be safe and secure. Longfellow Elementary, as part of the Iowa City Community School District, will not tolerate racism, hate, and other discriminatory acts. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously said that, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” We will work hard to not let today’s injustice stop us from creating a better tomorrow for our school community. Please know that even though it is summer, you can reach out anytime.
Below you will also find links to resources that are available for our staff and our community. Stay safe and take care. #ICCSDtogether
