Note from Mrs. Craft
Dear Hart Families,
Excitement has been in the air this week at Hart! We loved spending time with our Grandparents or special someone and enjoying a yummy lunch over the past two days. I hope this will be a memory that your child will always treasure.
This morning we kicked off our day with Reading with the Leopards! This is a special time for our secondary students to interact with our elementary students. This is a long standing tradition, and it is one of my favorite ones. The "big kids" greet our students in the morning, then they go into their classrooms and read a book to them and answer questions. Our students dream about coming back and having the same experience when they are in high school
Next week, we will have our first character assembly of the year with Dr. Blake Brandes on having a growth mindset. We appreciate our PTO sponsoring this event to help our students embrace challenges with excitement and see it as an opportunity.
As always, please feel free to reach out at anytime with questions or concerns.
All My Best,
Wendy Craft

My mission is to be a servant leader who works with students, parents, and staff to build a community that fosters relationships and learning where everyone THRIVES. Each day, I strive to make the choice to be great versus comfortable, because you can't be both!

Dr. Blake Brandes - Empowering Students through Hip Hop
Upcoming Assembly - September 20th
We are excited to kick off the school year with an assembly on some essential life skills we teach our Leopards - Growth Mindset and Grit! Dr. Blake Brandes is a youth motivational speaker, music producer, and growth mindset expert who has 17 years of experience presenting and working with students on these topics. Dr. Blake’s school assemblies feature engaging lessons on Growth Mindset and Grit through the use of beatboxing, comedic storytelling, and family-friendly freestyle rapping. His message and lessons are based on the research of Carol Dweck, author of Mindset and Angela Duckworth, author of GRIT. The goal of his presentation is to help students feel excited about embracing challenges and learning new things and persevere when they encounter difficulties in school and life. Our Leopards will be engaged and entertained, while also learning important lessons from his expertise and experience! We are so grateful to our generous PTO who is helping bring him to our school!

Attendance Update
Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).
Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences. This information can be found below:
MAP Growth Update
MAP Growth testing will be completed at the end of this week. We are looking forward to using the information it provides to meet the needs of our students. On October 4th, we will send home the MAP Growth Family Report with each student. This report will provide you with information about your child’s performance on the assessment. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher or campus administrator. You may also find helpful information in the MAP Growth Parent FAQ.

A Note from Nurse Tami
Hi, Hart families! We have been seeing a lot of cases of strep and upper respiratory infections, which is expected this time of year.
Please do not send your child to school if he/she has:
- A fever of 100.0 degrees or greater
- Vomiting or Diarrhea
- An infection that requires antibiotics (i.e. Strep throat, bronchitis, pink eye, etc.) unless they have been on antibiotics for a full 24 hours
Your child’s health is important to me. Please reinforce these everyday actions with your children to help prevent the spread of illness:
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Avoid sharing drinks or food.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread this way.
