From the Principal
Hello Oakies!!
What a joy it is to share this week’s message as your Principal! I am grateful for all of your support so far this year and can’t wait to see where we will go as an Oakhurst Crew! There’s a quote I’ve been keeping close to my heart, “The start of something new brings the hope of something great. Anything is possible!”
I can’t wait to see you at Community Circle in the morning!

Nurse Notes
Greetings from the Oakhurst Health Team,
As a reminder, all medications must be checked in with the proper documentation to the school nurse. Students are not to have any over the counter or prescription medications in their bookbag or on their person without following this step. The form can be found on our Oakhurst website on the school nurse page.
Thank you!
School Notes/Announcements
AUTHOR VISIT FORM DUE ON TUESDAY!
We're super excited to host best-selling author Mac Barnett and Caldecott winner Jon Klassen on October 19th as they share their new book, Three Billy Goats Gruff with us!
Mac and Jon are offering for any of their co-written books to be purchased and signed for this visit so please submit the attached order form by Tuesday, October 4th to get a personalized copy of Three Billy Goats Gruff, Sam & Dave Dig a Hole, The Wolf, the Duck, & the Mouse, Square, Circle, or Triangle.
The order form has been sent home in your child's folder and is also attached to this newsletter. It can also be found on our website.
We know from experience that Mac Barnett is super fun so this is sure to be an excellent visit from two amazing humans! Thank you for supporting our library in this way. If you have any questions, please email eguerrieri@csdecatur.net.
Lost & Found
It's the end of the month, which means we're clearing out our Lost & Found!
Anything not claimed by next Thursday will be donated to the Afghan American Alliance of Georgia.
Please do not email school staff to request that they retrieve an item you recognize from the photo. Families are welcome to come into the school to look for missing items in the Lost & Found rack located near the back door/media center.
One way to prevent your child's items from becoming lost and ultimately donated is to LABEL EVERYTHING: hoodies, masks, lunch boxes, hats, water bottles, etc. Oakhurst has a passive fundraising partnership with Mabel's Labels, which work really well, but you can also use a good old fashioned Sharpie!
Gifted Review: Important Information
Each fall semester the gifted review team looks at existing student data to discuss students’ needs and determine if further evaluation for gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, you may complete a Recommendation for Review Form (found at the website below) and turn it in to the Gifted & Talented Specialist at Oakhurst, Amanda Lockwood, before October 5th. You can send it back in your child's folder or email at alockwood@csdecatur.net.
No additional information is needed.
For more detailed information about the review process and to obtain a copy of the Recommendation for Review Form, please contact Ms. Lockwood or visit the following website:
