Attendance and Visiting Prospective Colleges

Seniors are given TWO excused absences for College Days. In order to have the absences excused, it will be necessary to turn in a note on college letterhead with the student's name and date of the visit. This should be turned in to Mrs. Martin in Attendance.

College Goal South Carolina 2015

College Goal South Carolina is a participating member of the College Goal Sunday program, a volunteer program that provides free information and assistance to students and families who are applying for financial aid for post-secondary education.


College Goal South Carolina is an opportunity for ALL students and parents/guardians to receive free financial aid assistance while completing and submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the first step to receiving Federal aid and the second step to post-secondary access, and it is a vital requirement for most college students who plan to pay for college with the assistance of several different types of aids.


Midlands Technical College, Airport Campus - Academic Center (1260 Lexington Dr, West Columbia), will host a College Goal SC Day on February 20, 2016 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm.

FAFSA - FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID

It's that time to file for Federal Student Aid! Federal Student Aid is responsible for managing the student financial assistance programs authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. These programs provide grants, loans, and work-study funds to students attending college or career school. Visit the FAFSA website to familiarize yourself with what you will need to complete your FAFSA form in 2016. Remember, there should never be a charge to apply for FAFSA funding.

**New Scholarships and Funding Opportunities Added**

The American Legion Legacy Scholarship

Child/children or legally adopted child/children or a child of a spouse by a prior marriage or dependent child as defined by the United States Armed Services for active duty personnel of the United States military and National Guard, and military reservists who were federalized and die on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. Must be a high school senior or high school graduate to apply for the scholarship. Deadline is April 1st. www.legion.org

Ann and Ed Pitts Memorial Scholarship

This Scholarship is available for graduating seniors pursuing a post secondary education who attended Anne Pitts Child Development Center for at least two years. Applicants will be judged on character, sincerity of purpose, achievement, and academics. This is a "one time only" scholarship. The number of applicants will determine the amount of the scholarship. Ann Bethea Scholarship - $1000

$1000 scholarship awarded to high school seniors living in Lexington County and plan to earn an Associates Degree in Nursing. For more information, visit www.lexmed.com . Deadline is March 15. Apply here.

Anne D. Pitts Memorial Scholarship - $5000

This $5000 scholarship is sponsored by the Lexington Women's Club. Applicant must be a Lexington School District One graduating senior having a 2.5 or higher GPA, entering into a field of medicine, and at an institute of higher learning in the state of South Carolina. Bobby Chapman Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship - $1500

The $1500 Bobby Chapman Scholarship is to be awarded to a student who is a graduate (or soon to be) of a secondary school in the Southeastern United States and or participated in a prior Bobby Chapman Invitational. The student recipient may or may not be a golfer, accepted as a full time student to an accredited college or university. Deadline is March 18. For more information and to apply.

CAGC Foundation Scholarship - Industry Certification/Advancement Scholarship - $1000

$1000 Industry Certification/Advancement Scholarship - opportunity for those, currently working in the construction industry, to advance themselves by improving/acquiring the knowledge and skills they need: Four (4) scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000, will be awarded to four (4) individuals within the construction industry pursuing, or planning to pursue, construction industry Certification/Advancement through an accredited center of learning in North or South Carolina. Denise Bedenbaugh Scholarship/Friends of the Lexington Main Library - $500

For a graduating senior pursing post-secondary education. Must be a resident of Lexington County. Applicant will be judged on character, sincerity or purpose, initiative, leadership, and need. Essay, references, transcript, and completed application. Apply here.

Doris Burkett Scholarship - $3000

Two students from Lexington School District One will receive a $3000 scholarship. Student must plan to attend either a four year college/university or a technical college, have financial need, involved in extra-curricular activities, show tendency of striving hard to achieve, involved in community and have potential service for the future. Farm Kids for College Scholarship - $1000

We are awarding three $1,000 scholarships in 2016. When you have completed the requirements for the scholarship, please submit everything to your state coordinator by March 3, 2016. To be eligible for the National Farmers Farm Kids for College Scholarship, you must: A) Be a high school senior B) Major in an agricultural field at an accredited college or university. Apply here.

IAPMO Essay Scholarship Contest - $1000

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), a worldwide organization of dedicated professionals striving to make our planet a safer and healthier place in which to live, will again sponsor an essay competition awarding scholarships to three young people. Must be a current high school senior; or enrolled or accepted as a full-time (12 credit hours) student in an accredited technical school, community college, trade school, four-year accredited college or university, or an apprentice program. Intertech Foundation STEM Scholarship - $2500

The Foundation has announced their 2016 STEM scholarship for students interested in pursuing careers as professional software developers. This opportunity is aimed at current college students or college-bound high school seniors, who have excelled in the areas of Math and Science, to pursue college studies in the area of computer science. To be eligible, the student must possess: A) Cumulative high school or college GPA of 3.3 or better B) An intent to study computer science C) Currently enrolled at or accepted to an accredited college or university within the US (not required at time of application). Lexington District One Office Professionals Scholarship - $600

This $600 scholarship will be awarded to a current Lexington School District One graduating senior who plans to attend an accredited two or four year institution in the fall, is pursuing a degree in a Business program, has maintained a 3.0 GPA in high school, is a U.S. citizen and a resident of South Carolina. Lexington Woman’s Club Education Scholarship - $2000

The Lexington Woman’s Club is sponsoring a $2000 scholarship for a Lexington High School, River Bluff High School, or White Knoll High School graduating senior (male or female) entering the field of education upon completion of his or her post-secondary degree. The scholarship will have a minimum value of $2000. The criteria for selection include: -Financial need -Academic achievement -Service to community -Leadership ability. Apply here. Leavitt Machinery Scholarship - $500

To be eligible for the $500 LM Scholarship Program a student must:

Be currently enrolled or expect to be enrolled in a degree program (2 years of length or greater) by September, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and submit an answer to the essay question prior to the submission deadline and be a US resident or a Canadian resident and must also attend a school in Canada or the US. Lucretia M. Cayruth Scholarship - $1600

This scholarship is in the amount of $1600. The ABWA Midlands Chapter has established eligibility requirements for scholarships. Applicants must be: 1. Citizens of the United States of America; 2. Attending an accredited technical school, college or university within the continental United States and its possessions or have an unconditional acceptance from an accredited college or university as described above with plans to attend that college or university as a full-time student, unless extenuating circumstances justify a modification of this requirement. 3. Maintaining a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale, unless extenuating circumstances justify consideration of a lower GPA. For more information and to apply. Deadline is March 14.

MCO Scholarship - $500

To be eligible for the MCO Scholarship a student must: 1) Be attending college or university no later than December of 2016. 2) Be attending college or university on a full-time basis by December of 2016. 3) Submit an answer to the essay question no later than 11:59 PM EST on May 15, 2016. 4) Be currently in your last year of high school or a freshman, sophomore, or junior in college/university. Medhurst/Norton/Telfer Scholarship - $2000

Odenza Vacations College Scholarship

To be considered eligible for the Odenza Vacations College Scholarship you must:
1) Be between the ages of 17 and 24 on September 1st, 2016. 2) Submit answer to the essay question, which can be found on the application page, prior to the June 1st, 2016 deadline. 3) Have a GPA of 2.5 or greater. 4) Be a resident of the United States or Canada. For more information and to apply.

Peck Law Firm Scholarship

This $2,000 scholarship is dedicated to helping the scholarship winner pay for a law-related college, graduate school, or law school degree. Any student seeking the scholarship must complete the on-line application. All written scholarship submission materials must be received by 11:59 PM EST on May 31, 2016. The winner will be announced on July 31. This scholarship will be judged and awarded primarily on academic achievement and a written response of not more than 1,500 words to the essay question. QuitDay Scholarship - Up to $2000

The QuitDay Scholarship essay contest is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are 18 years old or older. Applicants must be accepted to, or currently enrolled in a college or university located within the United States or in the District of Columbia. Only one (1) submission per student is allowed. Rotary Club Scholarship

This scholarship is provided to high schools in the district. A student whose parent is a member of the Rotary Club is ineligible. One scholarship will be given in the amount of $4000 over a period of 4 years. $1000 each year. Apply here. Deadline is April 15.

South Carolina Association of Extension Administrative Professionals Scholarship - $1000

The South Carolina Association of Extension Administrative Professionals (SCAEAP) offers a $1,000 scholarship to students pursuing a career in the secretarial science, computers science or business management field. Membership in the Association consist of administrative professionals working for Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service throughout the state.

The Touchstone Energy Scholarship - $3000

Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative provides seven-$3,000 scholarships to students in local school districts. Special consideration is given to financial need, extracurricular school activities, community involvement, recommendations and the students’ personal analysis. Deadline is March 4, 2016. The Touchstone Energy/ Spirit of Cooperation Scholarship is intended to recognize students who: 1. need financial assistance 2. are high school seniors 3. have at least a solid B grade average 4. are active in service to others 5. are goal oriented with a solid educational plan for the future 6. will NOT receive numerous or full scholarships and grants. The Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship - $10,000

The Vegetarian Resource Group each year will award $20,000 in college scholarship money to graduating U.S. high school students who have promoted vegetarianism in their schools and/or communities. Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or fowl. Vegans are vegetarians who do not use other animal products such as dairy or eggs. One award of $10,000 and two awards of $5,000 will be given. Do you want to be a welder? Arclabs Welding School offers innovative hands-on programs designed to rapidly teach welding essentials. Their training programs are offered to individuals with no previous experience and welders looking to advance their skills sets. The welding programs are fast-tracked and can be customized to fit specific needs in order to train welders for rewarding welding careers.

The current SAT will be administered for the last time in January 2016. The new SAT will start in March. Students in the Class of 2016 may be affected depending on when you decide to take the test.

How to access your SAT scores:

To access your SAT report, the student should log into collegeboard.com with your unique username and password. Click on "My SAT." This will show the upcoming test for which the student is registered (or registrations that are in progress), plus scores from all previous SATs taken.

How to send your SAT scores to colleges:

1. Sending score during registration - Choose four score recipients during registration. You can make updates to your score recipients up to nine days after the test date.

2. Sending scores after registration - You can send score reports at any time from your "My SAT" account. Please remember that there is a fee for sending score reports, starting ten days after your original test date. However, if you are a fee-waiver-eligible student, you may have additional score report credits.

National College Funding Services Scholarship

The amount of the Scholarship is $500 for participating high schools within Lexington Once School District for a 2015-2016 graduating senior.
