Coronavirus Update: School Closures
March 13, 2020
Dear PTHS D209:
After careful consideration of information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) regarding social distancing and the support of preventative measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus in our community, we are closing schools beginning Monday, March 16, 2020 with a tentative return date of Monday, March 30, 2020. Please note that this time-frame includes Spring Break, which is scheduled from Monday, March 23 through Friday, March 27, 2020.
School will be in session all day today.
Proactive school closures have been shown to be one of the most powerful interventions that we can deploy to curb the spread of a virus. During this time, school officials will work with our local health department, the IDPH, and medical community partners to ensure a safe and secure learning and working environment. In alignment with other educational institutions in our area, the closure will allow us to deep clean and disinfect our school buildings following IDPH guidelines.
D209 will be implementing its e-learning plan during the closure. Further information will be forthcoming regarding the districts’ efforts to maintain some continuity of instruction for our students during this time.
The decision to close our schools was difficult as we understand that this will have a significant impact on our students, families, staff, and community. However, the health and safety of our students and staff is our number one priority.
We appreciate your support during this challenging time as we all play an important role in reducing the likelihood of a COVID-19 outbreak in our school community. Please continue to practice good habits recommended from the CDC.
PTHS D209 will continue to keep our families and staff informed with any developments that may arise.
