Introducing GRE's New Health Assistant--Gabrielle Avallone
My name is Gabrielle Avallone, and I am the new Health Assistant here at Gold Ridge Elementary! For those that have not met me, I have a love for movement and exercise. I swam starting when I was 9 years old, up until swimming at Sierra College where I earned my All-American certificate for the 1650-yd Freestyle event and the 800-yd Freestyle Relay. If I seem familiar, I am the Head Coach of Folsom Sea Otters (FSO) Swim Team over at the Folsom Aquatic Center. However, FSO isn’t the only team I work with… I will be going into my 5th year as Head Coach for Cordova High School Swim team. As you can tell, I am on the pool deck a lot! I have a B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Nevada, Reno, and I plan to return to school to get a teaching credential to teach PE soon. I am a dog mom of 3: Coco, Gremlin, and Rue. I love to take them out and about in Placerville, or up hiking in Desolation Wilderness. In whatever free time I have left, I love to hang out with my husband, Cody, and watch Harry Potter movies or drag him out into the garage to work on our cars with me 😊

INTEL EMPLOYEES NEEDED FOR PC PALS PROGRAM!
To ALL Gold Ridge parents who work at Intel:
The Intel Facilities in Folsom has a great program called PC Pals. PC Pals is the email mentoring program where Intel employees email a student twice a week. The idea being to encourage, inspire and guide young people throughout the school year to work hard and be successful in school as well as provide the opportunity for students to gain computer experience. The program is a very worthwhile activity, with little time commitment from Intel employees.
The other great thing about the PC Pals program is the money that it brings to the school. The school receives a $200 Intel Volunteer Grant for every 20 hours Intel employees volunteer at the school. By the end of the school year, this can become quite a large chunk of money with which the school can spend on technology or other needs. In the last few years, the PC Pal program has earned Gold Ridge $15,000 to $20,000 in matching grant funds per year.
The commitment to the program from the Intel volunteers is to send at least two emails a week, and be able to attend two gatherings with the kids at the school. The kids absolutely love the visits.
This program is a great opportunity for our school to earn extra money. If you are an Intel employee and interested in joining this great program, please contact Tyrone Harding via Intel Email.
Donation Request from Ms. Hopkins
Mrs. Hopkins, the Intervention teacher at our school, likes to propagate plants to give away to students at the end of the year. Last year, she gave away spider plants. For anyone who can, this year, she is asking for donations of 4 inch used plastic pots, potting soil, and the green tops of pineapples that would normally be thrown away. She is looking forward to gifting a growing Pineapple bromeliad houseplant for each student. Donations can be dropped off in the bin in the front office.
