From the Desk of Pastor Linda
Therefore we must pay greater attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it.
As I began to write this little note to you from my sunny deck in our back yard I could hear the birds chirping and see the many black squirrels scurrying up the oak trees and knocking the acorns down. I began to think of God’s beautiful creation where all things appear to be in order by God’s divine hand. However, last week without any polite introduction the winds and rain whipped up and blew right through our community turning the world upside down for many in the area. Trees were uprooted and tossed on their side. Some trees landed on homes and others were someone’s favorite old oak standing in the front yard were now toppled over needing to be cut down and cleared away. And then, while still on my back deck, as if on cue, I could hear the sound of a chain saw getting fired up coming from a neighbors back yard. A large dying tree was being cut down and cut into small logs. Such the perfect sound provided as the backdrop to my musings.
This visions of site, sound and thought this morning over my cup of coffee on the back deck pushed me to think about Jesus! Yep, Jesus! Jesus was forever turning things upside down and pushing his disciples, Pharisees and the crowds to live authentically as possible as God’s child. Jesus, calling from the edge of the bowl shaped lake area around the Sea of Galilee, called them to be aware of the winds of God’s Holy desires for God’s people. Jesus words taking flight on the Holy winds of the sea had the ability to uproot peoples understanding of scripture and role as a reflection of Gods love in the world!
This week we continue with the Sermon on the Mount. In our Scripture Sunday Jesus imparts a new perspective of understanding the early Law/Torah. Come and worship this week and hear how Jesus teachings were shared on the winds of the sea…
Peace,
Pastor Linda

Led by Sally Montera
Do you remember a Sunday School teacher expecting you to memorize all the books of the Bible in order? Did you ever go to look up a Bible passage and weren’t quite sure where to look? Did you ever wonder what those little annotations meant or how the Bible was organized? Or are you like me and ever wondered what the background of the story you are reading is – where did this take place, why is the location significant, who are those people referenced, what does that word mean? This study will take up the basics of the Bible and how to approach its study. We will talk about Bible organization, footnotes, concordances, study Bibles, and maps - all designed to give you a solid foundation for future Bible studies.
