What's Happening at STE?
From the Principal's Desk
Thank you to those of you who made time to connect with your child's teachers this week for parent teacher conferences. If you were unable to talk on Tuesday, please reach out for a good time to connect with your child's teacher.
COVID-19 cases are increasing around Alaska and that includes Sutton. We are doing everything we can to keep school open. We continue to wear masks, wash hands numerous times a day and stay socially distanced as much as possible. Now more than ever it is critical you keep your child home for ten days if they are sick. We are seeing this virus show in many different ways with a variety of symptoms. Though we know this is the time of year where the common cold often hits, without testing we can not be too sure. We have been working hard to prepare students for being out of the building. If your child has to be out for ten days but is feeling well enough to do school work, please reach out to your child's teacher to know exactly what they should be doing so they don't get behind. Being out of the building does not mean no school.
Many of you have called to ask questions when you are not sure what to do as the guidelines around COVID-19 are always changing. I encourage you all to continue to do that. We are always grateful for open communication and are happy to help where we can.
Thank you for sharing your students with us,
Emily Austin Jordan, Principal

In P.E. we started our Basketball unit and have almost finished it. The children enjoyed playing some fun seasonal games and more of those will follow this month. As the colder weather has arrived and the holidays have approached we will continue to talk about making healthy food choices, exercising every day and getting enough rest every night.
We just completed month two of the HEALTHY FUTURES CHALLENGE. I’m looking forward to submitting the students October logs and awarding prizes to those students. STUDENTS HAVE BEEN REMINDED THAT THESE LOGS ARE DUE NO LATER THEN THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5th, IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A PRIZE.
Please continue to remind your children that they need to wear their P.E. shoes in the Gym.
In Music, we finished our learning and discovery of Modest Mussorgsky. The students have had many opportunities this month to compare and contrast different kinds of music that this composer wrote. They began to learned about the Concept Areas of Rhythm (Beat, Tempo, and Patterns), Melody, Form (Phrase and Sections), Texture, and Tone Color/Timbre and how they are used by composers and other musicians.
We will continue our study of composers and musical concepts over the next several months. This month the children and I thoroughly enjoyed learning some new seasonal songs together. My hope is they have been singing those songs for you at home. Thank you for always encouraging your children to try their best in Music and P.E.!
I’m sure many of you have seen Library books coming home each week, I do hope your children are sharing these with you. As I mentioned before we will continue to use some of our library time each week to learn about digital citizenship and the important skills that help keep us safe on-line.
It is such a pleasure and a privilege to teach your children each day! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions.
Have a fabulous November!
Ms. Fisher :)
