Panther Post
December 18th - December 23rd
Hello Lopez Families,
We had another busy week here at Lopez. With orchestra, boys and girls basketball games and tournament, and the UIL academic competition, I put in three thirteen hour plus days and a saturday of work. And it doesn't slow down next week either. I am happy to do it because I love these kids so much. To see them compete and create really gets my energy flowing. My favorite, is watching their personalities during the school day, and then seeing them compete with tenacity is always fun. We also had one of our 7th grade art students, Lauren Leos, win the NEISD Gala invitation contest with the picture below. Great job Lauren! And then there was Speech and Debate from the previous weekend. We got the scores back and Lopez took first again with a dominating performance.
I got word of a safety concern I want to bring to your attention. Apparently there havve been some students who walk home and play a game where they run out into the street near cars. If you have kids who walk home after school, please talk with them about this potentially disastrous situation.
Another safety concern is parents dropping students off in the morning on Hardy Oak. I know it is a long line, but safety is much more important. Please go through the line and drop them off in the designated area.
The lost and found is piling up and we are going to donate the items to the NEISD clothes closet on December 22nd. If you have been missing anything, please tell your child to check the lost and found, located in the 6th grade hallways right by the front office. I am sure they all know where that is, but sometimes middle schoolers need a little prompting.
And last but not least, thank you to our PTA for a wonderful teacher luncheon on Friday. We loved it!
Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli

Leader In Me
Habit 7 - Sharpen the Saw means to have balance in your life. There is a story of a man who was sawing down a tree and not making a lot of progress. When a passerby asked him why he didn’t stop sawing to sharpen his saw, he remarked that he was too busy sawing. Habit 7 reminds us that we are more productive when we are in balance—body, brain, heart and soul. Just like the four tires on a car, if one area is being ignored or overused, the rest will feel the results. The car analogy is a good visual that we can understand; a car could not go on fewer than all four tires. It is important to take care of each part of ourselves to make them all work better. During the next few weeks and during the Winter break we hope you and your family Sharpen the Saw. We will come back to Lopez in the new year ready to LEAD, SERVE AND INSPIRE!
