Santan Storm Newsletter
Keep Calm & Storm On!
LETTER FROM THE "EDITOR" ... MRS. REZZONICO
Dear Santan Junior High Families,
As the year comes to a close, I would like to express my gratitude to all the Santan families for your support this school year. It has been an honor and pleasure to work with your children. Santan staff and students truly make it a joy to come to work each and every day.
Fourth quarter brought us many exciting events that are highlighted in this newsletter. Students celebrated their academic success at our Stormin’ Scholars celebration. We also awarded the first annual “Be Cooper Kind” award that evening in honor of Cooper Thomas, an 8th grader we lost last year to leukemia. Other events included our NJHS induction and fine arts performances. Counselors and teachers celebrated our Character Counts award recipients at a breakfast on a beautiful May morning. Our athletic teams brought home four EVC Championships this quarter!
Our fabulous booster club helped us celebrate our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you to our hard-working board members for making the week special and showing the love for our wonderful teachers. Boosters also put on a fabulous 8th grade semi-formal, it was so nice to see our students dressed up and enjoying themselves. The evening was a great success! Thank you to our parents who generously donated in support of our booster events.
Last week we were able to have our first spirit assembly in two years. It was wonderful to see our dance team, band, and choir perform in front of the entire student body. Donna Gustafson and her Student Council planned and organized this event, it went seamlessly even after a two-year hiatus. They also earned the Master Council award from the Arizona Association of Junior High Student Councils at their annual convention in May.
We look forward to seeing both our incoming 7th and returning 8th graders on Monday, July 18th for our Stormin’ Day to review schedules, tour the campus, and receive other important information.
On behalf of the staff and administration at SJHS, enjoy your summer!

EYE ON THE PRIZE - STORMIN' SCHOLAR
The Stormin’ Scholar award is the highest academic award that a
student at Santan Junior High can receive. In order to qualify as a
Stormin’ Scholar, a student must receive “A’s” in every class for the
first three quarters of the school year. These students are honored
at a special ceremony in May. Work hard and set your goals high
and you, too, can become a Stormin’ Scholar!
"Be Cooper Kind" Award
The Thomas family presented the first annual “Be Cooper Kind” award to 8th grader, Andrew Lewis at the Stormin Scholar ceremony. The award was given on behalf of one of our very own Stormers, Cooper Thomas, who we lost in 2021 to Leukemia.
The ‘Be Cooper Kind’ award was given to Andrew for showing kindness in everything he does on the soccer field, in the classroom, and out in the community. Andrew is an outstanding leader and will continue to spread kindness to the world just as Cooper did every day.
With the award, the Thomas family has donated $500 to the Santan Jr. High club of Andrew’s choice-the National Jr. Honor Society.
Thank you to the Thomas family and Congratulations Andrew!
