The WAVA Wave
September 9, 2016
Dear Parents & WAVA Students,
Welcome to Washington Virtual Academies! My name is Jayme Evans and I am the High school Principal. The 2016-17 school year begins my 16th year working as an educator. I am excited to see so many returning students and I look forward to meeting the new students who have joined WAVA this year.
Washington Virtual Academy (WAVA) believes that a vigorous Parent-Student-Teacher Relationship is vital to your student in having a productive school year. Our vision at WAVA is to create a supportive and interactive online learning community.
In order to facilitate that relationship, we would like to take a moment to emphasize the following features of our online school and hope that you will take advantage of them as the semester continues.
Features for Parents & Students
- Parents (Learning Coaches) should have a personal username/password to the WAVA site. Each student should have his or her own username/password as well. This facilitates communication through our confidential email system.
- Your student’s grade book and activity is open for your convenience 24 hours per day, seven days a week. If you need help in learning how to gain access to this information or in establishing a username/password, contact your student’s Academic Dean or Family Support Liaison.
- Weekly Homeroom Meetings are required for each student. Students will engage in many activities which will support our weekly contact compliance requirements as well as help students to plan for their future after high school.
- Monthly Conferences are required for each student. These conferences are with your student’s homeroom teacher. A student or LC can follow up with an email to the homeroom teacher regarding the conference if you have questions.
Reminder for Parents (LC’s) & Students
- There is no need for you to take attendance at WAVA High School; all activity is recorded automatically and that record is open to you as we previously noted.
- Weekly contacts are documented in our homeroom & class connect sessions. Announcements and important dates are routine communications during these required sessions.
- Email: Students should respond to email daily. All email sent to your student can be viewed by you.
- Live Class Connect sessions are our daily instructional sessions provided by each teacher during the week. WAVA Students are required to attend all of their class connect sessions each week.
Again I would like to welcome you to the 2015-16 WAVA High School! I hope you have a great year in our school.
Jayme Evans

Learning Coaches - please update your email!
We need to know what email address you will want to use as a learning coach for the 2016-17 school year. Students will receive their own WAVA email address on August 19th. If you have an email change, please email info@wava.org to update.
Using Texting/SMS for Communication
We are excited to announce a change to our new WAVA text messaging feature.
Beginning on August 8th, you will receive a welcome text message, letting you know that you have been opted into receiving text message notifications from WAVA. These messages will allow you to receive important, urgent updates regarding school deadlines, events, outages, and other pertinent information.
Standard text messaging and data rates will apply and WAVA is not responsible for these charges.
With this change, please note that all messages from WAVA will be sent from numbers 23177 or 63709. We encourage you to save these numbers in your contact list, so you can easily identify messages from WAVA in the future.
Though you have the ability to respond to text messages, WAVA does not have the ability to read the content of your replies. We simply receive notification that you have responded. If you would like to receive a response back regarding a question, please respond by emailing info@wava.org.
Should you choose to opt out of receiving text messages from WAVA, simply reply STOP to the welcome message. As WAVA is not responsible for text messaging and data rates, be sure to reply STOP if you do not wish to receive text messages.
