February 1 - February 5
Greetings Families!
This week, students will be learning and discussing the following topics!
English-Language Arts
We will be continuing our "Folktales" unit and will be finishing "Knots on a Counting Rope". Students will be responding to writing/discussion questions, while learning/reviewing how to properly restate a question and use proper writing conventions, cite text evidence appropriately, and using the text to answer the question completely. Students are also learning how to retell and summarize a story, with emphasis focused on including key events, characters, and setting(s). We will also be reading a short passage about Groundhog's Day and formulating an opinion about whether students feel a groundhog can predict the weather, or not, and providing reasons and evidence for opinions.
Within spelling, we are working with "R-controlled" vowels, word with -ar. Weekly spelling practice has been shortened to 10 words per week, with the test being Friday (unless otherwise stated).
Math
Grade 3
Our third graders will be reviewing how to write division equations, how multiplication and division are related, and the rules for dividing with 1 and 0 on Monday and Tuesday, in preparation for a Math Review Test planned for Wednesday, 2-3-2016.
Grade 4
Our fourth graders are continuing working with factors and multiples and determining prime and composite numbers. Fourth graders will be taking a Math Review Test on Wednesday, 2-3-2016.
The 100th day of school is Friday, February 5.
Theme
Our budding scientists have their first sprouts growing! Our first sprout was within one of our "soil-only" pots, while our second sprout has appeared within one of our (eggshell and soil mixture" pots! Students will be continuing making daily observations and documenting seed growth with their partner. Students are also learning about the solar system during science. We are focusing on the sun, moon, and earth this week.
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO CHECK AND SIGN PLANNERS NIGHTLY, AS ANY REMINDERS AND/OR CHANGES/POSTPONEMENTS OF TEST DATES WILL BE WRITTEN WITHIN PLANNERS
