For La Escuela Fratney Families
Special Visit, Shout Out, and How You Can Get Involved
La Escuela Fratney hosted a special visit on Thursday, December 16th. Dr. Posley, our district superintendent and School Board Director Bob Peterson visited K3 and K4 Classrooms. They visited classrooms and were very impressed! We discussed the high need to renovate a basement room and bathrooms for our K4 students. The board will discuss the use of ESSER funds for this renovation.
Shout out to two of our parents:
Tanya Ramos (Amelia-K3 and Luna-K5)
Garrett Bucks (Ida-K4 and Olof-3rd)
for speaking at a recent board meeting to emphasize our unique and excellent school and need for this renovation using ESSER Funds.
How can you get involved:
Contact our Board Member, Jilly Gokalgandhi, to let her know we need a basement renovation for our K4 students so that they can all be together and have access to appropriate bathrooms. We really would like to see this renovation happen before next school year.

Our students and families have been doing great wearing masks and staying home when sick. We have had very few cases of COVID and want to keep it that way. We do NOT want to have to close school at all this school year. If we had 13 cases in 2 weeks we would need to go virtual. Our goal is stay in person learning ALL school year! Please help us keep everyone safe and healthy.
- Please, please make sure your child comes to school in a mask every day.
- Please get your child vaccinated!
- Students ages 5 and up are now eligible for a vaccine.
- MPS students who are vaccinated qualify for a $100 incentive from MPS.

IF your child tests positive for COVID or is a close contact, please call Ms. Sara Cruz directly at 414-267-1105 and email a copy of the positive test result to her at schneisx@milwaukee.k12.wi.us She will ensure that the information is kept confidential. She is required to complete follow up information and will ensure you are aware of next steps for your child and family.
Locations and times for FREE COVID vaccines are listed below. Please consider vaccinating your child as it will ensure that our whole community stays healthier and safer during this pandemic. If your child is vaccinated and not showing symptoms he or she would not need to quarantine in the event they are a close contact.
K5 Shout Outs
Shout Outs to the K5 teachers:
Ms. Lara, Ms. Reyna, Ms. Carmen, and Ms. Feliciano have been working extra hard this school year!

School Engagement Council Meetings
We welcome all families to participate in our School Engagement Council Meetings. We meet once a month on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. At this time due to the pandemic, we are required to meet virtually. We have a Family Google Classroom that we use for our meetings and where we will be posting more family updates. The meetings include sharing updates and topics for families. Any parent attending the meeting will have the opportunity to discuss topics of their interests or concerns and discuss solutions or next steps with other families and school staff. Families wanting to work with other parents on a specific topic are strongly encouraged to attend to connect with other families and collaborate on events, activities, or fundraisers.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program
La Escuela Fratney is fortunate to be part of the fresh fruit and vegetable program. Every Wednesday and Thursday students receive a fresh fruit or vegetable for a snack to eat in the their classrooms. The goals of the program coincide with our school goals of ensuring that students learn about healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables and have the opportunity to taste them. Last week your child tasted mango and cauliflower. There will be a monthly calendar with the snacks shared each month. Your child's teacher will also be teaching about each fresh fruit or vegetable as part of the program.
La Escuela Fratney Recess
Physical exercise and fresh air is very important for all students. Therefore, all our students go outside to recess every day unless it is 10 degrees or colder.
Please ensure that your child has a winter jacket, hat, and gloves every day for the cold weather. Once it snows, we encourage snow boots and snow pants.
Please note that all items should be labeled with your child's name. We are not responsible for lost items. If you have items that your child has already lost, please come in with a mask on and check out our school's lost and found in the main hallway.
If you need help ensuring your child has winter weather clothing, please contact Mr. Dylan or Ms. Milissa our school social workers.
Enrollment for new K3, K4, and K5 students begins in February
Help us spread the word! Enrollment for our K3, K4, and K5 classes for next year opens in February. We have very limited seats so encourage your friends and family to apply in February to ensure a spot. If you have a child who is currently 3 or turns 3 before September, be sure to enroll him or her in February.
Are you willing to help us hang up flyers or spread the word about La Escuela Fratney? If so, please contact our parent coordinator LIsbel Torres.
Please note that no current students re-enroll. Once a student is enrolled at La Escuela Fratney they are expected to stay enrolled through the duration of the program in 5th grade to ensure the highest level of language learning possible.
