Oh my name is Skippito Friskito...
First grade students and I read the book Skippyjon Jones Class Action by Judy Schachner. Skippyjon is a Siamese cat that really wants to be a Chihuahua. His adventures in this book take him to dog school where he helps his friends face a bully that turns out to just be a very tiny teacup Chihuahua that is very hungry, not mean at all.
The kids love the language play that occurs in this story and giggle when Skippyjon transforms himself into his alter ego, Skippito Friskito. They also enjoy when he attends French class and things get really silly with a little French, a little Spanish and some silly English words that sort of sound like Spanish or French.
First graders are working on using the library and following the routines we've been using and also have time to work at centers during our time together. They have the opportunity to read the book they have chosen, do puzzles, draw or write, create things with blocks and pattern blocks, use the train table, and more.
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to volunteer!
