ASCII VS UNICODE
DEFINITION AND EXPLANATION
WHAT IS A CHARACTER SET?
The definition - An ordered list of characters used in printing or writing. In more simpler terms, it is a character that is represented by another series of characters. E.g A capital A is 0100 0001 in ASCII
ASCII was originally developed for communications and uses 8 bit binary to portray each character in its character set. One thing that really holds back ASCII is the fact that its only 8 bit, this means that there are only 256 combinations and that you could only have 256 items within its character set.
