FastBridge
Upcoming English Language Arts and Math Screener (Fastbridge) to Guide Personalized Instruction
Students in PCR-3 participate in screening in English Language Arts and Mathematics as a way to provide information related to skill acquisition in those areas. This assessment, known as FastBridge, replaces STAR, which was used in the District for quite some time. Fastbridge is a nationally normed screener and is a skills-aligned assessment that will inform instruction to best meet student learning needs. This assessment will be administered three times this school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Our Fall window runs September 1 - September 30. Students do not need to prepare for this assessment and the results are used for informational purposes only.
Major Saver
Platte County Education Foundation Fundraiser - September 7-19
Next week, we will kick off our Platte County Education Foundation discount card sales program. Our schools, in conjunction with Major Saver, work with businesses throughout our District to offer a $15 discount card providing customers with 21 local buy-one-get-one-free or discount offers. In most cases, redeeming only two offers offsets the cost of the card. Proceeds from the card campaign directly benefit your student's school and the Platte County Education Foundation. The Foundation gives back to the Platte County R-3 community by awarding annual pre-K through 12th grade classroom and building site grants, as well as senior scholarships. Your student will be bringing home an envelope with information and instructions on Wednesday, September 7, and will be instructed to not go "door-to-door," but to offer to relatives, friends, co-workers, etc. Collection dates start on Monday, September 12, and the program wraps up on Monday, September 19. Please consider purchasing a card and supporting our schools! You can also purchase cards online here.

Professional Learning Community Time Designed to Improve Student Achievement; First PLC Early Release - September 14
Next Wednesday, September 14, students will be released two hours early for Platte County School District's first Professional Learning Community (PLC) day of the 2022-23 school year. PLC days are designed to establish sustained and uninterrupted time for educators to work together and collaborate. Collaboration is an essential ingredient for continuous school improvement and staff development. Both of these are directly related to student achievement. This time allows educators to examine and respond to the four basic fundamental questions of a Professional Learning Community:
What is it we want students to learn?
How will we know when each student has achieved the learning?
How will we respond when a student is not learning?
How will we respond when we know a child has mastered the learning?
Parents are encouraged to opt-in for text notification PLC reminders by texting "YES" to 67587 (standard text messaging fees apply). All PLC early release days are also listed on the district calendar. For more information on PCR-3's PLC, click here.

Suicide Prevention Month
September is Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month. The purpose of having a month dedicated to suicide prevention is to decrease the stigma around mental health and increase suicide prevention awareness. We can build resiliency in our community by starting conversations that encourage help-seeking behaviors. Look out for more information regarding specific awareness opportunities throughout the month.
Barry School joins numerous organizations across the country sharing resources and helping community members take action in order to prevent suicide. We will participate in the campaign through information sharing, discussion, and activities. The goal is to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, spread hope, and share resources to prevent suicide. I have included important contacts for easy reference:
- If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 immediately.
- If you are uncomfortable talking on the phone, you can chat the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988lifeline.org.
- You can also text NAMI to 741-741 to be connected to a free, trained crisis counselor on the Crisis Text Line.
