LHS Monday Memo
Week of 2/24-2/28
Good evening LHS family,
As a reminder we are doing peer instructional rounds including LHS teachers and administrators on Tuesday 2/25 and Wednesday 2/26. Teachers who are members of the ILT are participating along with additional interested teachers. The groups participating will be debrief and sharing common findings as a whole group. As we have done in the past, these rounds are to focus on a problem of practice, and then share back themes that were observed. Additionally the information gathered will help guide our future PD and additional instructional strategies to continue to drive us toward GREAT!
Our next staff voice group meeting is on Thursday, 2/27 at 2:40 in the LT. All are welcome to attend!
Congratulations!
Qtr. 2 Celebration at the Freshman Academy on Friday, 2/14
Congratulations to Esdras Sousa, winner of the Freshman Academy Talent Show. Esdras displayed his saxophone skills alongside his classmates as the Freshman Academy ended their week with a quarter two celebration of talent and student achievement. Students performances included dancing, singing, guitar and beatboxing. Our students certainly have talent, but even better than the performances was the way in which staff and students came together to support one another.
Congratulations to our Students of the Quarter: Alexander Gonzalez, Chelsea Destin, Patricia “Tiffany” Murugi, Nnadubem Ganobi, Malakai Xayadeth-Nou, Aidan Lavoie, Jeremiah Bebway, Socheata Im, Alex Whapo, Soniya Pradhan,
Nevaeh Montanez, Hailey Bosch, Quin Foyle, Lilian Men, Damien Pak , Nhyira Nkansah, and Jennifer Pham and our Teachers of the Quarter: Mr. Gallagher, Mr. Keefe, Ms. Durbrow and Ms. Parades. We are looking forward to our next event!
Copley Square - Boston Public Library - a performance of Wolf Play
Bread Loaf "Wanderings" are after-school field trips designed by LHS faculty to extend student learning beyond the classroom and to expose students to a variety of cultural experiences outside of Lowell. These trips are open to all LHS students. Up next: The Boston Public Library is a cultural gem that sits in vibrant, bustling Copley Square. We will explore the area around the library and attend a 7:00 performance of Wolf Play, by Hansol Jung, at the Boston Public Library’s Rabb Hall. Students will have time to get dinner on their own in the neighborhood around the BPL.
Information about the play: https://companyone.org/production/wolf-play/
This trip is scheduled for Thursday, February 27th. See slip for details and please share this information with your students!
The bus is FREE. The tickets are FREE. Students are responsible for their own dinner $ or can reserve a brown bag dinner through LHS.
Seats on our wandering trips are reserved in the order that completed permission slips are received. Students may submit completed forms to Mrs. Keefe in the Teacher's Center/Main Office or Mrs. Rzepala in Room 713.

ALUMNI NEWS
At a recent Gear Up District-wide meeting at Worcester State University, Lowell High School and Gear Up Alumni from the class of 2019, Sam Grimes, participated in an Alumni panel with two other Gear Up Alumni from Worcester and Lawrence. Sam pictured below (far right), is a freshman at Worcester State University majoring in criminal justice. Sam shared his story about his successes and challenges. He was an active member in our Gear Up program at the Pyne Middle School and throughout his four years at Lowell High School. He contributed his success to his mother, who always pushed him, participating in Gear Up’s summer programs, and was grateful for the constant guidance by his Gear Up Advisor, Jeanette Racine. Sam noted that guidance on the Common Application, FAFSA and Financial Literacy were critical in helping him enroll in college. We are proud of Sam’s accomplishment
