Patriot's Pen
Week 22: February 11-15
Message from Mireles
Maybe it's LOVE in the air.
Maybe it's the sudden onset of cold weather.
Maybe it's the flu.
Maybe it's phases of the moon.
Whatever IT is, it's here and with a vengeance.
Despite all that, so many amazing things are happening at RMS--- in the classroom, on the basketball court, at Intramurals, during club times and so much more.
Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the students of Rawlinson, it doesn't go unnoticed, everything you do matters and makes a difference.
Stay strong Patriots! Chocolate to the rescue, see you in the Patriot Place on Valentine's Day.

A few things to review:
There are some very important structures that need to be followed consistently. This time of year is when we need to run a tight ship with common expectations and routines. Please be mindful of the following five items:
1. Our being here is first and foremost. Whenever possible, please be present. Subs can not provide the same consistency as the Rawlinson faculty and staff.
2. Please be punctual for assigned duties. Before school duty for teachers begins at 7:45. After school duty begins immediately after school at 3:40. If you are unable to be there, please find coverage. Please also be at your doorways during passing period.
3. ANY student going ANYWHERE during class needs a pass. This is both a campus and a district expectation. Our compliance to this will be measured in an upcoming safety audit with the NISD safety specialist.
4. P4C, Rawlinson's common progressive approach to behavior management in the classroom should always be followed.
For persistent Tier 1 behavior and for any Tier 2 behavior, parent contact AND a teacher assigned d-hall is required before sending a referral to the VPO for that student. ONLY Tier 3 behavior that "crosses the line" (indicated on our form with a physical line) should result in a student being sent directly to the VPO. Otherwise, the referral should be submitted, and we will call for the student. Please refer to the Behavior Management tab on the Rawlinson Site, it is very detailed and informational when in doubt.
5. And finally as a reminder-- SMILE, and when correcting behavior, consistently approach it with respect. Be purposeful when choosing words, tone and body language so that ALL of our students feel that we care for them despite their choices.
Our next PBIS Faculty Learning is scheduled for 3/5/19. We will compare our students' attendance with our own. We will review our referral data, and do some re-teach on the P4C. And we will get ready for our first RAWLINSON RECESS!
Again, thank you to SO many of you who have stepped up and filled in gaps, because you recognized the need and were ready and willing to go the extra mile. It does not go unnoticed, and it is SO appreciated!
Check out the Rodeo Burger in the Cafe!
- Shoutout to Ms. Chip for always looking after English Learners best practices and testing accommodations. Thank you for always being on top of things. You do our job easier :)
- Thank you Hospitality committee for all the hard work you did to make counselors feel special and appreciated this week.
- Shout-out to our secretaries for holding down the fort with so many things that have gone on throughout the last week, you girls are total rock stars!! Cynthia, Joy, Lori and Laura, Miriam and Erica!
- Special thanks to all those who saw the need on Friday and stepped in to help in so many different ways, it was a tremendous help. #RMSUnited
