App Reviews
Classwithapps.com lists great classroom apps, as well as lesson ideas. Some of the recommended apps are free and others are paid apps. I love the "Put a Sock In It" lesson using the Sock Puppets app!
Fizzics Education
Fizzics Education is an Australian based website for a company who brings science into schools (much like Mad Science here.) Since it's located in Australia we can't schedule them to visit our school. However, they do list science experiments under the tab titled "Free Experiments." These experiments are fun, simple, and safe for kids! Check out Why Are Sunsets Red and Blow 'em Apart to see how easy and inexpensive the setup is.
Constitution Day
Constitution Day is Sept. 17th! Celebrate the constitution with your students. There are vast resources available through Safari Montage, BrainPop, and BrainPop Jr. In addition, the Center for Civic Education provides lesson plans broken down by grade level. Wixie (students access through itslearning) has an activity titled "Classroom Constitution." As a class, write a Constitution laying down rules for the room. Teachers Pay Teachers has great resources as well. This scavenger hunt costs $1 and accompanies the book Shh! We're Writing the Constitution.
