"IBM introduces the IBM Portable Personal Computer, an early portable computer. It featured a 4.77MHz Intel 8088 processor, 256KB RAM, a 9 inch amber monitor, a 5.25″ floppy drive, and the DOS 2.1 operating system. It weighed 30 pounds and cost $2,795. Try setting that on your lap."
First Shot: Learn how to use Snapchat with Snapchat
Let me admit something to you: I have no idea what Snapchat is.
Yes, I'm the Director of Technology, and yes, I do have a penchant for online tools and communities. But I've written off Snapchat as a choice for the younger generation. "Why do I need another social network for in my life"? I say as a means to justify my choice.
But here's the thing: many if not most of our students are using it.
Snapchat's adoption is so widespread that I believe it's becoming the place teens (and entities like corporations and politicians trying to reach teens) are going to engage and communicate. My own exploration is primarily fueled by a desire to understand the tool our students are using to consume and create content.
Good thing Joanna Stern from the Wall Street Journal took the time to create an instructional and fun video called "Snapchat Explained...Using Snapchat". Yup - the journalist created her tutorial using the tool itself - nice modeling!
I believe both as an educator, and as a parent, it's important to stay current with evolving tech trends. If you agree, have a look at the Snapchat tutorial below and join in the journey with me.
(If you're unfamiliar with Prezi, you've never had a meeting with Matt Lipstein! Prezi is a wonderful online presentation tool that uses spatial relation to break out of the Powerpoint doldrums.)
The 2015 awards came out a few weeks ago, but it deserves attention here as inspiration for what you can do in your classes and presentations.
Here are a few great examples of exceptional Prezis:
