Glenealy School Newsletter
13th December 2017
Message from Brenda
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year!
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday with your friends and families. It has been a long and productive term with the students having rich learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. It’s time now for them to charge their batteries for the new term ahead. Have fun!
Farewell and thanks
At this time of the year some of our families move on to other places around the world. We wish them all the very best in their new schools, work places and in their new country.
Zainab Ebrahim will be leaving her position as part time EA in 1L and Stephanie Mathyssek will take over the role in a full time capacity until we can fill the vacancy. We would like to thank Zainab for her outstanding service to the school.
Thanks to Dominic Jones for his wonderful drone pictures of sports day which have been included in the newsletter this week and thanks to you all for your support of the school and your strong partnership throughout 2017.
Regards
Brenda

Island School's Move to Sha Tin Campus: Update & Useful Information
Teaching and Learning
All teaching staff visited the Sha Tin campuses on the 20 November. They saw the progress of the refurbishment works, their teaching spaces and then visited some local points of interest. Head of Humanities Stephen Budd said; “I run the ‘Local History’ Elements course and next term we will be visiting lots of places in Sha Tin and the New Territories, including the Heritage Museum, Chi Lin Nunnery and maybe some Hakka villages.”
“It will be good, there are lots of things we can learn around there.”
Student Wellbeing
There will be no change to the pastoral or wellbeing care currently available to students. Gala evenings and charity weeks will continue as Houses work together for a common goal.
Parents of current Island School students have had the opportunity to tour the Sha Tin campus and there will be an Open Day on Wed 7 Feb 2018.

PTA News
Glenealy Gives Back
The PTA has once again partnered with the charity Crossroads to arrange for 2nd Hand School Uniform to be re-used and responsibly recycled. Uniform in good condition will be sent offshore to economically deprived communities and garments that are not fit to wear will be recycled. Thanks to all who made the effort to donate. The PTA will continue to accept donations, so please drop off your clean, unwanted uniform at the shop on Thursday mornings.
Playground Sale Success
Thank you to those who came out to shop at our Kitchenware and 2nd Hand Book Sale last week. With your help, we raised over $1,790 for future school projects.
UNIFORM SHOP NEWS
January Shop Opening Hours - With the introduction of the new uniform and reduced direct sales, shop opening times will be reduced. In January 2018, the shop will open on Thursday mornings 8.20 – 8.45 a.m.
Fitting - the PTA Uniform Shop has samples of new uniform items. The uniform fit is very different to the old uniform so we strongly recommend that you come to the shop to fit the uniform on your child before ordering. If you are not able to come with your child for fitting on Thursday mornings, please contact pta@glenealy.net to arrange an alternative time.
Ordering Online – Place your orders online at www.schooluniform.hk. We do not have any stock of the new uniform in the PTA shop. Your order will be sent to your home address.
Purchases & Exchanges – our uniform supplier has a retail shop in Lai Chi Kok which you can visit to purchase uniform or make exchanges. Please see the website www.schooluniform.hk for more details.
The PTA wishes all our families a happy holiday season and safe travels!
The book will be published in November 2017. Place your online order now at http://www.esf.edu.hk/50th-book/ for the ESF 50th Anniversary Commemorative Book Jubilee Gift Set!
