Mr. O'Connell's Weekly Updates

1-25-21

No School

There is no school Monday and Tuesday, January 25 & 26 as teachers will be learning these 2 days.

Valentine's celebration

We are not able to have a party to celebrate Valentine's Day with food, therefore we will invite students to send in Valentine's Cards for all the students in their class. If you want to attach a treat, you can do that but it is not required. You can send in the valentines anytime the week of Feb 8th to the 12th. Students will sort their own valentines and then on Friday your child will bring home the decorated bag. If you as a family prefer to quarantine the cards for some time, that is up to you as a family.

We will also do some special celebrations all week long! Here is the link to the celebrations we will participate in the week of Feb 8-12.

Weather Changes

The weather is ever changing as we are deep into the winter season now, so this is a reminder to make sure you are sending your child to school with clothing that is suitable for the weather. We will be going outside for recess unless the wind chill is below 10 degrees. Having appropriate winter gear will help your child to stay warm while they are playing outside. Please have your child's clothing marked with their names too! Thanks so much!

Hy-Vee

Our local Hy-Vee on Johnson Avenue reached out and would like to extend the opportunity for our families to participate. Thanks for choosing Coolidge and we will hopefully be the winners of the cash prizes. Read this flyer. Be watching for the clips from Coolidge!

Thanks for continuing to send in your Hy-Vee receipts!

Health Guidelines

We have had a great two weeks back in school! Just a reminder to continue to let us know here in the office if your child has been exposed to someone with the virus or if there is someone in the house with the virus Updated district guidelines

We appreciate you contacting the Nurse (ctrautman@crschools.us or stjohnson@crschools.us) or Mr. O'Connell (goconnell@crschools.us) if you have been exposed or have tested positive for the virus while on break. This just keeps us informed and also helps to keep everyone healthy in return from break.

Winter Books to read

Here is a link to Winter books to read/listen to online with your child!

Here is a link to some books about Martin Luther King Jr.

School Pictures

During the fall, we were not allowing photographers into our CR buildings. We are hoping to do spring photos, but I am not sure right now. We will communicate if we set a date and are inviting the photographers into the building. We will have time for our in person learners and our remote learners if they choose to come into the building to be photographed. Please stay tuned for a date and time.

Hearing testing

Because the Grant Wood AEA hearing department is unable to test all of the students normally tested due to the pandemic (we are only testing PK IEP, K, 1st grade, and known losses in elementary), we are offering dates when parents can schedule an appointment to bring their students into either the Cedar Rapids or Coralville offices to get their hearing tested.
