What's Happening??!!
~ Hawley Elementary School Newsletter: December 5, 2021 ~
From the Desk of Mr. Moretti.....
Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians, Teachers, and Staff,
December at Hawley is Kindness Month. We are looking forward to a month of activities focused on giving back to the Community and helping others.
Buckle up, stay seated, and keep your hands and feet in the car at all times, as you read on to find out What's Happening at Hawley .....
~ Touch-A-Truck ~
Students were able to touch them, get inside them, and yes- had them make their noises: alarms, horns or sirens. It was loud but exciting!
Thank you to the Father's Club and for all the people who brought trucks down for our Hawley students to enjoy.
Parked Buses
As you read in the most recent Superintendent’s Report, we are implementing a temporary “early drop off” when a bus is parked and will not complete its morning run on time.
The morning drop off will begin at 8:00am and be supervised by Hawley staff. The children will be dismissed to their classes when regular arrival begins (8:45am). Our plans are ready to be implemented immediately.
Please note: The early drop off option will only be provided for students who ride a parked bus where parent drop off at 8:45 isn't possible. The late run option (sending a bus out 1 hour after the Hawley/Reed route) will also remain available.
I will include this information in my emails informing you of a parked bus.
A Message from the Art Department
The art teachers at Hawley School would like to catalog your students' artwork digitally using Artsonia. Artsonia is the world's largest student art museum. Each student will have a private art gallery for family and friends to enjoy. There is the option to purchase products with your student's artwork, and the funds raised will go directly to the visual arts program at Hawley School.
Parents will need to register to allow their student's artwork to be in the public gallery. The request to give your student permission went out last week. Check your email for a message from Artsonia and reach out to the art teachers if you have any issues registering.
There will be no images of students or names published, just the artwork. If you have any questions, please reach out to Jennifer Giddings (giddingsj@newtown.k12.ct.us) or Jean Griffin (griffinj@newtown.k12.ct.us). For more information about Artsonia you can Click Here to visit their website.
PJ Day for Kids
Each year, December at Hawley is Kindness Month. We read stories, do activities, and share/speak of ways to give back to our community and to help others. One way we do that is by supporting CT Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and participating yearly in PJ Day for the KIDS.
On Friday, 12/10, businesses and schools across the State wear PJ's to raise money and support kids battling cancer. Our school goal is $400. Please go to our Team Page by clicking here and donate $1.00 (or any amount that you wish) to wear PJ's one week from tomorrow (12/10).
Perhaps you can talk to your child and have them do some type of good deed for someone to earn the money for the donation and they can share it with their class.
The response so far has been overwhelming. Thank you for supporting this most meaningful endeavor.
Recess
I share this so you dress your child appropriately (as I had 3 boys that wore shorts year round ;0)~
We can not supervise or accommodate students staying inside if they are under dressed or if they are not feeling 100%. If you feel your child is a little under the weather and you are concerned with them going outside then they should remain home.
We do allow students to play in the snow as long as they have the Big 5 (boots, snow pants, a coat, a hat, and gloves). Your classroom teacher will share with you how often and what days snow play is allowed (as the younger students need a tremendous amount of help getting dressed so it is not as often).
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Help Needed: PTA 2022-2023
Through Fund Raising the PTA has donated to Hawley, just in the last 4 years, basketball hoops, a new stage curtain, a new sound system, and playground swings.
Our PTA leadership is moving on to the Reed school as their children are graduating at the end of the year. We will be in the need of new people getting involved and joining/leading our PTA.
It is not as overwhelming as you may imagine. You can partner and work collaboratively with friends so no one is alone. There are so many amazing people that step up to assist with events, and the staff is always there for assistance. There is even the opportunity for you to participate and shadow people and events THIS YEAR to familiarize yourself and slowly acclimate.
If you would like more information or have questions, feel free to reach out to me (morettic@newtown.k12.ct.us) and we can set up a time to discuss. Our current PTA Board would also be a terrific resource. Click on a name to send them an email: Jennifer Padilla, Kristen Bonacci, Laura Ormiston, Christy Glovaski, Thom Damon & Stephanie Floody.
Hawley would not be the same without our PTA. Thank You for your consideration.
