Causes
Since reading was really popular as entertainment in the 1920’s some of the (arguably) greatest literature ever written. People read because it was essential for a good education.
Characteristics
Some characteristics of literature at this time was reading. This was a popular recreational activity especially during the winter time when people didn't want to go out a lot and preferred to stay indoors and enjoy the warmth.
Significance
The literature in the 1920's had an impact then because it provided powerful entertainment and it made many people back then, literate.
Nowadays, that literature is mainly used for educational reasons. (The Great Gatsby, 1925 for English).
