We are finding our groove in Centerview’s learner-centered environment during this second week together. As a staff, we’ve planned and designed and now hope to cultivate a culture where each student and staff feel valued, inspired and have a sense of belonging.

Grade levels and homerooms are taking the time to learn and know one another, establish routines and identifying norms with expectations to build a community. Each morning, every classroom begins with a morning meeting. They greet one another, share, participate in an activity, and conclude with a note-worthy message for the day. It’s been fun, and students are adjusting well!

An update for this week:

• Review and sign – Student Expectations for Behavior and Attendance Agreement: If you haven’t already, please prioritize reviewing our student expectations for behavior and attendance. We’re asking every family to review and sign these agreements. These are available in Campus with instructions in our Centerview newsletter below. The student expectations established provide clear guidance for students and staff and limit the variability of the learners’ experience from one environment to another.

As we learn and grow together in the month of September, know that we are looking forward to designing and hosting experiences that connect and support our partnership as we jump into the month of October.

A heads up that there will be an event happening at the National Sports Center over the weekend, and traffic will be busy starting tomorrow, Thursday, September 15.

If you haven't done so already, please take a few minutes to complete your review of student behavior and attendance expectations with your student(s).

1. Log in to Campus Parent Portal with your district username and password.

2. Select your student in the upper right corner.

3. On the main menu click on DOCUMENT.

4. Locate the Parent Documents section.

5. Click on the 2022-2023 Behavior and Attendance Agreement.

6. Review the document with your student.

7. Sign and submit.

8. Repeat these steps if you have more than one student in the district.

Centerview is in need of a person to support arrival and dismissal from 8:45-9:30 a.m. and 3:30-4:15 p.m. each day. This person would direct our parent drop-off and pick-up south of 105th and north of the NSC Welcome Center. Yes, this is currently where Mr. Callahan is located.

This would be a paid position through the school district and would support the safe arrival and dismissal of our students on a daily basis.

Accidents happen regardless of age that require a change of clothes. Spilled food, nosebleeds and students unable to make it to the bathroom in time are just a few of the reasons our students need an extra outfit. We try to have a variety of sizes on hand to help get students back to class. Our Clothing Closet in the Health Office is always in need of gently used athletic pull on pants or leggings. Elastic waist clothing is preferred as it fits a variety of sizes and is free of snaps/buttons/zippers which can be difficult for some students. Donations are always welcome. Sizes 6T – big boys and girls. Send your donations to the office. Thank you!

Starting on Monday, October 3, there will be two lunch entrees available daily for students in elementary school to choose from.

As a reminder, you can find what is being served for breakfast and lunch each week through Nutrislice. You can find the menus online or download the Nutrislice mobile app. Simply visit the Google Play Store or iTunes Store and search for Nutrislice.

The “knowing each student by name” part of our district’s vision has been on full display across schools, grade levels and classrooms in these first days of school. First graders made name tags that could hold a pencil, stand on their own, and, of course, had their names. Fifth graders were making iMovies about the “top 5 things to know about me.” High school classes were playing name games.

These first moments, days and weeks of school set the tone for the year to come. After two years of disrupted, pandemic learning, concern for academic growth and emotional and mental health is top of mind for parents and educators. That’s why even more intentional efforts to build relationships and create community are a top priority as a new year of learning begins.

Please join us for the first PTO meeting of the school year on Tuesday, September 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the Centerview Commons. All families are welcome to attend to learn more about the Centerview PTO. We will discuss plans for the school year, including our annual Fun Run Fundraiser. The Fun Run is scheduled for Thursday, October 6th during the school day. More information about this exciting event will be shared soon.

Mark your calendar and join us for live theater! All performances take place in the Spring Lake Park High School Fine Arts Center (1100 81st Ave NE, Spring Lake Park). Tickets can be purchased online or at the door for a dollar more.
