Raider Update
A Weekly eNewsletter from Hastings Public Schools
Message from the Superintendent
Hello Raider Families and Happy Mid-Summer!
These last few weeks, since the school year ended, have included work on our strategic planning. The school board has met twice now to update a district mission and vision and plan their work for the next 36 months. We have also been spending time planning for how to best utilize the Federal Dollars allocated to us. Documents related to this work can be found on our website. A few themes presenting themselves through strategic planning and feedback from the community have been students being in-person, keeping buildings open, and programming.
We are told that herd immunity, through vaccination, is a strong defense to COVID in our community, as well as potential variants. There are multiple ways to get vaccinations, and a great resource is the Dakota County Website. We also need our kindergarteners, seventh graders, and eleventh graders to get their regular vaccinations before starting school in the fall. With that, don't forget to check your student's sports physical status. Physicals are good for three years and must be on file with the school district before participation.
Summer school programming is set to begin on July 6th. If you have questions, please reach out to your specific building. We won't have another Raider Update until the beginning of August. I hope you continue to enjoy a safe and relaxing summer!

School Board Update for June 23, 2021
1. A resolution establishing dates for filing affidavits of candidacy was passed. The period for filing affidavits of candidacy for the office of school board member of ISD 200 will begin on July 27th, 2021, and will close on August 10th, 2021. An affidavit of candidacy must be filed in the office of the school district clerk, and the $2.00 filing fee paid before 5:00 PM on August 10th, 2021. The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021. At that election, three (3) members will be elected to the School Board for terms of four (4) years each.
2. There was a change to the 21-22 school calendar, which moves the first day of school for in-coming 6th graders to September 8th (no longer September 9th). This change will allow in-coming 6th graders the opportunity to orient themselves to the Hastings Middle School, which was missed out on last year due to COVID-19.
3. Buildings and Grounds Director Cam Peterson introduced the Long-Term Facility Maintenance Ten-Year plan. This plan includes the expenditure and revenue projections for the next ten years. The plan includes projects by funding source and school and can be viewed here.
4. The adopted 21-22 budget was shared by Jen Seubert, Director of Business. The K-12 budget bill is currently in process at the State, and updates to the ISD 200 21-22 will be made in October.
The next regular school board meeting is on Wednesday, July 18, 2021, at 6:00 PM. For more information about the school board, meeting dates, agendas, and minutes, visit our School Board page.
