SCHOOL NEWS AND VIEWS

We had a great (but short) week
Dear Parents,
Thankfully, we were spared the wrath of the storm. We took many precautions here at Holy Cross. When Hurricane Irma came through two years ago, we had $100,000 in damages and loss. We can't be too careful. The students made a great adjustment back to school. I think they were happy to be back in the routine.
As you know, we did make one change in our calendar due to the storm and that was to reschedule our 3rd through 8th grade Back to School night.
Here is the schedule for next week:
Tomorrow, Saturday September 7th: Memorial Service for our beloved former teacher, Jan Moore. 11AM. Praise Choir should meet here at 9:45AM, dressed in church appropriate clothing.
Tuesday, September 10th: Parent-Teacher League (PTL) Back to School Meet and Greet and Potluck Dinner. This is a casual event for our parents, old and new, to get together. Bring a dish to share. This will begin at 6PM in our auditorium. Children are welcomed of course, but we do ask that you keep them with you and under your control. In other words, no running around while the meeting is going on.
Thursday, September 12th: Back to School Night for PK through 2nd Grade students. This will begin at 6:30PM in our church. We will have a short meeting and then you will go and visit classrooms. Children are welcomed of course, but please keep them under your control so that all of our parents can enjoy the event. If you have more than one child in this age group, you will need to split yourself or perhaps bring two parents or another family member. The PE court will be open for parking.
Friday, September 13th: "Shed Your Threads". About once per month, when announced, we give the students a dress down day for a $1 donation to some fund or organization. Your students may wear their own clothing to school IF they bring a $1 donation with them on Friday. If you do not wish to donate, your students should wear their school clothing. Clothing need to be appropriate for school. No midriff shirts or shirts with spaghetti straps. No boots or sandals for safety reasons.
Looking Ahead:
Monday, September 16th until finished: Speech/Language Screenings for those students who have returned the form.
Thursday, September 19th: Back to School Night 3rd grade through 8th grade. Meet at 6:30PM in the church, then go and visit classrooms. If you have more than one child in this age group, you will need to split yourself or perhaps bring two parents or another family member. The PE court will be open for parking.
Wednesday, September 25th through Friday, September 27th: NO SCHOOL. We are closed for our annual Lutheran School Teacher's Conference. OOS is available but you must SIGN UP IN ADVANCE. Please see the link to the sign up genius included in this newsletter.
OOS News and Information
If your child attends after-school childcare two or more days per week, you should strongly consider enrolling in the full time OOS program that is partially funded by The Children's Trust. Because of the funding we receive from this organization, we are able to greatly reduce the cost of after-school care (OOS). For example, instead of $15 per day drop-in or $50 per week, parents who enroll their children in the full-time program are charged only $100 per month. This is a tremendous savings. In addition, these parents DO NOT PAY for OOS on Teacher's Work Days and other days when there is no school and childcare is available (for example, September 25-27). Students enrolled in the full -time OOS program get first chance at spots in after-school activities that have limited space.
The requirements to participate in this program are:
OOS packet must be completed and turned in to Miss Innocent.
Student must stay at least 4 days per week.
Student must stay until 5PM.
CHERRYDALE FARMS FALL SALE
We know that we can count on all of our parents and families to do their part and help make the PTL's biggest fundraiser an amazing success!
All of the students came home with a Fall Sale Packet. You will note that the order form is very small and is limited to only 11 items. This is because they are trying to push the online and text ordering. However, do not be deterred by this, we have lots of extra forms in the school office too if you sell more than 11 items and need another form, stop by the school office.
There are lots of rewards for students who sell and our top sellers are awarded gift cards and special lunch out. Please read the flyer for further information.
NO SCHOOL DAYS SIGN UP FOR CHILDREN
For the students who are enrolled in the full-time OOS program, there is no charge for these days. For all others, there is a daily rate of $30.
Breakfast and lunch will not be available. Space is LIMITED. The deadline to sign up is Friday, Sept. 20th at NOON.
Put your child's name and grade in the COMMENT BOX!
