Aiming to Keep You Informed

October 16, 2020

From the Office

We enjoyed welcoming in our first group of students who selected in-person learning. It was so nice to have students in the building with us!

We are super proud of the efforts of our students and staff to keep everyone safe as we returned to having students on campus. Here are a few of the guidelines we put in place to insure everyone's safety:

  • Students and staff are required to wear masks* indoors at all times when not alone
  • Students are seated at minimum 6 feet apart from each other and staff members
  • Students are encouraged to wash their hands often and/or use hand sanitizer
  • Students are travelling in cohorts when they change locations
  • Staggered times are used to avoid congestion during arrival, dismissal, and passing
  • Students are seated by cohort at Lunch
  • Shared spaces/surfaces are cleaned between groups and each evening. Hand sanitizer is also available in all classrooms.

*Please see this resource on guidance for acceptable masks; please note, as we enter winter months, neck gaiters at this time are not considered an acceptable mask and won't be able to be used at school due to unknown effectiveness per the CDC.

COVID-19 Positive Parent & Staff messages

This week we sent home 2 notices regarding members of the Westfield community who were COVID positive. In both instances, the individuals had not been in the building yet. We will continue to share pertinent information with parents and staff when we receive it. The District 13 website is also a great resource. You can access the most updated health information and other resources using the following link: District 13 Return to Learn resources

If you have additional questions about Return to Learn please submit them here: Additional Return to Learn Questions

*Reminder - A/B Group Designation

Unless contacted directly by the Main Office, the A or B designation for your child will be based on the first initial of their last name.

  • Students in the A Group have last names starting with: A-L
  • Students in the B Group have last names starting with: M-Z

*Reminders-Morning Arrival Time

Walkers and Car riders, please arrive between 8:10 - 8:25am. Bus riders will arrive according to their bus route information. Students will proceed into the building upon arrival and head to their homeroom locations for the day (see below for location assignment information). We are asking students not to arrive prior to 8:10, if possible, to avoid groups gathering on the front walkway prior to entering the building.

Vehicle Drop-off: As a reminder, the front lot is only available for bus traffic before and after school; Car drop off is along Fairfield Way. Please drop your child off on the Westfield side of Fairfield or encourage your child to use the crosswalks if needed. Crossing in the middle of the street is unsafe during drop-off and pick-up times.

*Reminders - Student Entrances

Staff will greet students on the front patio in the morning and assist them with safely entering the building. Students will be asked to wear a mask as they approach the building, socially distance themselves from others, and enter the building one at a time. All student entrances are along the front side of the building.

  • 6th Grade students will use Door 30, which leads into our Athletic Gym
  • 7th Grade students will use Door 32, which leads to our Commons
  • 8th Grade students will use Door 1, which is our Main Entrance.
