OFF TO A GREAT START

It is hard to believe EEA is just shy of finishing its inaugural semester. In August, the district came together and stood behind the motto, "If you can dream it; you can do it." Our staff has brainstormed, collaborated, drafted, and executed some monumental ideas and visions this semester; all the while keeping our students' development a priority. In a season where celebration, wonderment, and hope are at the center; we can't help but feel the season's magic among us.

With the support of our families, we have accomplished some pretty amazing things as we have progressed through the school year:

  • We increased personnel, by adding an additional teacher, paraprofessional, and two custodians.
  • We have established community partnerships with HEB and Hobby Lobby as they extended support for student projects.
  • We installed an amazing playground to provide a platform to build and exercise large and small muscle groups.
  • We installed a solar shade to provide relief in hot and cold weather conditions.
  • We are currently providing internships for 12 CTE students in the field of education.
  • We have over 20 volunteers from Tomball Star Academy on a weekly basis.
  • We have partnered with both Tomball High School and Tomball Memorial High School students from the following CTE pathways: Culinary Arts, Registered Dental Assistant, Certified Nurse Assistant, and Emergency Medical Technician.
  • We gave our students "hands on" experiences in the fields of construction, transportation, nutrition, safety, and health.
  • We provided an opportunity for school portraits.
  • We provide the same digital learning resources and equipment as other district students so that are students are truly ready for kindergarten.
  • We have created a schedule whereby staff members collaborate to address critical student needs in the learning and developmental process, including curriculum, instruction, assessment, and responses to learning.
  • We have created a program whereby oral language skills can be targeted thoroughly and accurately through both direct and play based instruction.

After an intensive five months of state inspections, I am proud to announce that Early Excellence has been given a perfect score in all standards. We have now moved from "Permit" status to "Licensed Center." This allows our facility to begin working on national accreditation in early education. Thank you to our families for your amazing support during this time. We could not have done it without you. Excellence truly does begin early.

December Happenings

We have truly enjoyed the magical month of December! So many wonderful memories!

Language Lab Update

The Language Lab is up and running. Students have been practicing using the center and individual center stations. Throughout January, the lab will expand to include other key components for direct instruction and other early literacy targets, including phonemic instruction.

At this time, we are asking families to help stock our grocery store center with emptied and cleaned boxed goods and cartons (i.e. your child's favorite cereal, snack boxes, pancake mix, milk). These items will be used for various literacy development skills.

EXCHANGE DAY UPDATE

EEA staff is currently considering a modified schedule for our district exchange day, January 20.

EEA staff and substitutes are required to complete 24 clock hours of continuing education hours. Given our current calendar, we are looking at all possibilities so that our staff has the opportunity to earn their required hours with the least amount of impact to our families.

Please complete the following survey located HERE to provide information to EEA so that we can adequately meet the needs of both our families and our center.

Early Enrollment

We are beginning to look at enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year. For our current families, we are opening up an early enrollment period. By enrolling early, your child's seat will be secured for the 2020-2021 school year. We are also looking into additional financial incentives for early enrollment.

Open enrollment for current EEA families, for the 2020-2021 school year, will begin February 17 and run through March 6. After March 6, seats will be open to all district employees.

Please complete the google survey HERE for early enrollment input.

We are beginning to draft plans for our two week summer camp program. Our summer camp will be offered June 1 through June 12. Hours of Operation have been tentatively set for Monday thru Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

REMINDERS

SNACKS

At EEA, we are growing minds and bodies!

Please remember that each child needs to bring two nutritious, ready to serve snacks from home each day. One for the morning and one in the afternoon. Snacks should not require cutlery, cutting or reheating.

Balanced snacks help to keep our kiddos full longer as they spend a lot of energy exploring their environment. Great snack choices include one item of produce (veggie or fruit) and one item of either a fat, protein, or whole grain cereals or breads. (American Association of Pediatrics).

Some excellent snack ideas are:

  • sandwich cubes
  • cheese and crackers with Applesauce squeeze pouch
  • Plain low-sugar cereal (Mini Wheats, Cheerios, Kix) and fruit

CHANGE OF CLOTHES

Spills and accidents occur any day and at any time. Please make sure the following items are ready for your child daily:

-Two complete changes of clothes, including socks, pants, shirts, and underwear

-Morning and afternoon snacks

-Nap time materials

-Reusable water cup

For actively potty training students:

-Wipes

-Pull Ups or training underwear

These items should be restocked on a weekly basis.

Conferences

Parents may request a conference with a teacher if they would like to discuss their child’s progress. Parents must call the Academy to schedule a time that does not restrict the learning of other students.

Teachers will reach out to parents to schedule a conference at any time they feel there is a need.

LUNCH COUNTS

Great job families on keeping us updated with our lunch counts! We VERY much appreciate it!

The staff at THS needs our lunch count by 9:15, so parents please let your teacher know whether or not a lunch will be needed if your child is coming in late.

Coffee in the Cafe

Parents, we continue to invite you to join us for "Coffee in the Cafe." Coffee in the Cafe is a designated time devoted to visiting with our families weekly as we continue to grow. Families can build supportive relationships with each other and center staff as they offer feedback regarding EEA. Your feedback will then be used to facilitate our families' needs as well as to develop our center.

Coffee in the Cafe is held each Friday from 3:30 pm to 4:45 in our center's cafeteria. If you are unable to enjoy a cup of coffee with us, please leave us an "EspressNote." EspressNotes can be completed at any time and reviewed by staff on Fridays.

We will keep the coffee pot full for you!
