Library Art
Congratulations to Fifth Graders Lily Denny and Katie Woodall! These two Public Library Bicentennial Poster contest winners received 1st place for their collaborative artwork. Thank you to Mrs. Vinchenza Sweet-Mikell, our art teacher, for encouraging students to enter art contests in the Madison county community.
Environmental Education Week
May 14-18 was Environmental Education Week. Last Friday our EES students welcomed representatives from Barn Hill Preserve. They showed off a bearded dragon, a corn snake, and a two-toed sloth. Students were fascinated by all of the animals. Teachers especially fell in love with the two-toed sloth! Mrs. Turner, our 2nd grade teacher, did a wonderful job organizing all of the Environmental Education presenters!
A Trip to the Botanical Gardens 🦋
After being rained out the first attempt to venture to the Huntsville Botanical Gardens several weeks ago, the 2nd Graders finally had the opportunity to spend a beautiful day wandering about the gardens and playing with the butterflies in the butterfly house. Happy Spring!

Field Day Fun!
Our Pre-K - 5th Grade kiddos had a blast at their Field Days this past week! We were thankful the rain held off and the weather was great!
VOLCANO EXPERIMENT
The students in Mr. Campbell's third grade class erupted volcanoes after gaining an
understanding of volcanoes and volcanism.
Mrs. Truesdail would like to congratulate Mrs. Bielat's Kindergarten class for being selected Music Class of the Year!
They worked extremely hard in music class and earned a "Big Hand Award" every music class this year!! This video shows them hard at work!
Parade of Readers
The Parade of Readers finished off their Reading Challenge this month! The Monday they received awards and paraded around the school to show off their accomplishments.
Fifth Grade Follies
Fifth graders put on a show last Thursday at the annual Fifth Grade Follies. Students performed everything from dancing, singing, piano, to comedy. It was a great performance by all!
Principal for a Day!
Eliana was the top earner for our Read-a-Thon! She won the opportunity to be Principal for the day! Dr. Headen kept her busy with all the events happening around the school.
Field Day Fun!
MES Field Day was held last Friday! The students had lots of fun competing against each other in various activities. A big thank you to the Monrovia Volunteer Fire Department for coming to cool everyone off after a long day!

Mrs. Gunner’s Drama students have been working hard on their plays all semester long. Last week they performed the plays for their parents and fellow students. Reviews say the plays were GREAT!

Hudson Alpha BioTech Academy
Summer Science Institute at Auburn University
Congratulations Rachel Fulda, one of sixteen students selected across Alabama and Georgia for the Summer Science Institute (SSI) at Auburn University!
SSI is a 6-day summer residential program at AU that targets exceptional public, private, and homeschool students from Alabama and Georgia who are currently in 10th or 11th grade and are interested in a future career in the sciences/mathematics. Those who are chosen to participate will have the opportunity to work with over a dozen of the best and brightest science and math faculty at Auburn. The students will get a rare inside look at the fascinating research that takes place at a Research–1 institution and will learn cutting–edge techniques in biology, chemistry, physics, geology, and mathematics.
Bicentennial School with $2000 Grant
Only 200 schools across the state will earn that title. It also comes with a $2,000 grant award to support the "Living History" project Ms. Carnell submitted. Her project will highlight historically significant places in our community.

NMS 6th grade students are wrapping up their final year at New Market with a bang! They took a trip to Lake Winnie in Chattanooga on Friday! This is always such a special treat for our 6th grade students. Our school will certainly miss these students as next year but we wish them the best of luck as they embark Buckhorn Middle School. They may be absent from our hallways but they are always in our hearts!
