Extended Flex Learning - Mini PD
And Additional Resources!
Mini - Professional Learning Opportunities
As a result, on May 1st, Teaching and Learning is excited to provide optional/voluntary "live" professional development opportunities to support continued planning. These sessions will include collaborative grade level discussions, as well as, opportunities to learn new tools and strategies. May 4th will not have structured PD opportunities offered by T&L. Sites and PLCs may utilize this time to continue to plan and prepare for next steps in distance learning. CEUs (16 hours) will be provided to all licensed staff for planning, prep and choice learning on these days. Click here for directions to access the 16 CEUs in UTPL.
If you are not able to attend the learning sessions, no worries - the learning sessions will be recorded and placed in our Schoology Extended Flex Learning course for future access. The grade level collaborative sessions will not be recorded; however, staff may access the discussion notes within the Extended Flex Learning Mini-PD spreadsheet linked below.
Below you will also find additional resources and links to the Minnesota Distance Learning Summit, the Relationships Check Tool, the Write.Right.Rite Series, and curated video resources from the Digital Learning Specialists.

Relationships Check Tool
During this time of social distancing, it can be harder to stay meaningfully connected with the young people in our lives. Yet our relationships are vital to their wellbeing and thriving. Relationships are the source of nourishment and resilience for all young people in many different circumstances and from many different backgrounds.
But when we have great relationships, some areas are stronger (and come easier) than others. And they can become strained when they are disrupted, or in times of stress or crisis . . .Like in a global health pandemic.
Whether you’re someone who works with young people and now connects only through technology, a parent or guardian sheltering at home, or an essential worker trying to care for children and keep your job, you’ve likely experienced significant disruptions and strains in your relationships with young people during this challenging period.

Write. Right. Rite Series
Welcome to the “Write. Right. Rite.,” a “GRAB THE MIC: Tell Your Story” video series! The “Write. Right. Rite.” is meant to be an entertaining and inventive way to engage with the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, Jason Reynolds.
According to Reynolds, the “Write. Right. Rite.” is all about learning the ritual of “authentic”—not to be confused with “correct” or “exact”—expression. Throughout the series, he will share his passion for storytelling while discussing topics like creativity, connection, and imagination. At the end of each video, Reynolds will share a prompt that encourages young people to work toward a specific idea. The activities are fun-filled and some are more challenging than others, but Reynolds always makes sure to include brainstorming “get-you-going” questions.
So, what do you say? Are you ready to dive into, try on, and work through the newest episode of the “Write. Right. Rite.”?
Go for it!
