Elmwood News (11/12/18)
Week of 11/12-11/16
Message from Principal Polomsky
Elmwood Parents & Community~
It was so fun to see your kids' faces today with the first snow fall of the year. Outdoor recess was a big hit with the fresh snow. Just a reminder, students are allowed to play in the snow at recess if they are wearing snow pants and boots. Please be sure to sure to label your kid's winter gear with their first and last name.
A huge shout out to goes to our SFCP co-leaders, Jessica McGuire & Libby Traeger for organizing our annual winter coat drive. Over (55) Elmwood students received winter attire today! A huge THANKS to all of our Elmwood families for your very generous donations!
Thank you for Making A Difference each and every day!
Lisa Polomsky

5Essentials Survey
As a parent or guardian of one or more students attending Naperville Community Unit School District 203, your feedback is requested via participation in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey.
The purpose of this online survey is to understand parent/guardian perceptions in the areas of connectedness, satisfaction, interaction, involvement, and quality. Your participation and ratings on this survey are confidential; the district will only receive district or school level results if at least 20% of parents/guardians participate.
The results of this survey will be used to understand areas of strength and challenge at the district and school level based on your input and feedback. Families with students attending more than one school are asked to complete the survey for each school individually.
To access the survey, please click here https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/. Please select “Dupage” as the County. Lastly, please complete this survey by Tuesday, January 18, 2019 and thank you for your participation.

PE Update
Thanks to all of you that volunteered during our 2 week rock climbing unit. The students learned a lot about the value of teamwork as well as all of the safety commands and procedures. Special thanks to Mrs. Goldstein, our Elmwood scheduling coordinator and to Mr. Scott McGonagle, our number one parent volunteer! This unit was a smashing success thanks to all of you that helped out and made a difference!
Please stay tuned, our next climbing unit will be at the end of January and our roller skating unit will be in April. We hope to see you then.
Thanks again,
Ms. Westlove and Mr. Howard

ColorCyle
Elmwood is going to participate in a very special program with Crayola. It’s called Crayola ColorCycle – an amazing new program devised to turn used markers into energy! All around Elmwood students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands. Drop-off boxes will be located around the school for your child to deposit the markers. Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year. Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—ColorCycle it!
Donate Small Toys to Elmwood
THANK YOU to the many parents who have already made a donation! We will accept donations all year, so keep them coming!! Remember... "One's trash is another one's treasure!" :) Thanks in advance for your donation!
Donate Recess Equipment to Elmwood
We are always in need of equipment- if you have any extra balls in your garage that you would like to loan our playgrounds, we would gladly take footballs, kick balls, soccer balls, basketballs, jump ropes. Your student can bring it to the main office for us to label and put into our bins. Thank you!
