The Mangus Messenger
4/8/18
Dear Parents,
What a week! Your students proved, once again, that their hearts are big and that 5th grade is a "family" where honesty, teamwork, and fun are at the heart.
Thank you to all of you who have signed up to bring in snacks before our upcoming CMAS testing (we are only missing one on Friday). It's such a nice perk for the kiddos and helps us create a fun testing environment. Please note, if you signed up for any of the first three days, our math testing time is now in the afternoon (see schedule below).
You are more than welcome to drop off any snacks in the morning, but they are not needed until closer to lunchtime. I changed the times on the sign-up and I'm hoping you already got an email from SignUp Genius.
At home, please help me reduce the anxiety that oftentimes comes with state testing.
This way we will be giving them the same cheerleading speech each day!
Thank you for your help and have a great week!

At home, please help me reduce the anxiety that oftentimes comes with state testing.
- First, and foremost, reinforce their hard work this year and tell them we are proud of them NO MATTER WHAT!!!
- Please remind them that it is NOT something to stress over because it is just some "practice" (they do well with this word).
- Try their best so they can show the state what all we have learned so far.
- Also have them get lots of sleep, good food, and exercise!
This way we will be giving them the same cheerleading speech each day!
Thank you for your help and have a great week!

No Taxation Without Representation
What better way to learn about Social Studies than with M & M's!!! King Aiden decided the taxes that the colonists would pay, tax collectors made sure they paid, but the colonists had no one speaking up for them. You know your students are learning when they are shouting, "That's unfair!"
I think my favorite tax was "anyone who has just gotten their braces off pay 5 taxes" (right after she walked in the door). HA! Congratulations, Ava!

Chemistry: Acid Experiment
The kids had a blast doing our Chemistry experiment. They tested the reactions of baking soda, baking powder, and purple liquid (black bean juice) with both vinegar and water. I loved watching them observe how acid reacts with these different substances.
I truly believe that, with their talent and passion, they will change the world!

If your student is interested in participating in the Variety Show, please make sure they complete the form that came home on the flyer. They can bring it to me and I will pass it on to Mrs. Reed. Please note, they must attend the demo day in order to be part of the final show.
- Tues, 4/17: Variety Show DEMO Day at 3:30 pm (at ARPS)
- Tues, 5/1: Variety Show REHEARSAL from 5:00 - 7:00 pm (at ECC)
- Wed, 5/2: Variety Show at 5:30 - 8:00 pm (at ECC)
I look forward to seeing what your students come up with!
Celebrations & Goodbyes
Thank you to all of you who donated ice cream for our Pennies for Peace celebration!!! It was an incredible accomplishment and tribute to the hearts of our students. While celebrating our generosity, we decided it was the perfect opportunity to add in a surprise going away party.
Every single year, I have to say goodbye to students that have become my family. It's one of the hardest parts of my job. However, this is the first time I've had to say goodbye before the year is over.
The Weststeyn Family is leaving Colorado on Monday to embark on their next adventure in Texas. We are extremely sad to see a key member of our community go and, while we wish her the best, we shed a lot of tears. We all shared our thoughts on what made Reese such an integral part of our 5th-grade family and we hugged her as many times as we could. Thankfully, we will be able to fill our void once a week as we have already scheduled to FaceTime with her.
Thank you, Reese, for teaching us how to be our best selves! You are definitely "somebody who makes everybody feel like somebody." We wish you the best and know that you will succeed in everything you put your mind to!
