Freshman Academy Conclusion 2016
The continued implementation of the four-point scale that the middle school launched has settled in and the students have a clear understanding of what formatives and summatives are. Students are assessed on what they can "show they know"- and their habits outside of their knowledge are reported completely separate from what they know academically.
Our goals were many, and despite unforeseen circumstances, we worked incredibly hard for a cause that we believed in. It is our genuine hope that the learning, not the "grade", is what became the priority for our students- this is a process and it takes time, just like anything else. We would like to think of our efforts like seeds. We've planted the seeds and look forward to the harvest-
As we conclude this year, we wish you all the very best and will leave some more food for thought-

average of 3.0 in all courses with no grade below 2.5
High honor roll:
average of 3.3 in all courses with no grade below a 3.0
*If your student participated in an honors-level course, this is different than earning honor roll or high honor roll.
Summer Sports Session and Tournaments!
Educator's Corner!
How could you find the height of a tree with a protractor and a tape measure (without climbing the tree)? Our final exam will occur during regularly scheduled exam time (see above).
Ms. Lynch: Global Citizenship will be wrapping up with our end-of-year student presentations. The "Believe in Zero" summative has begun and the next 9 school days have been scheduled for specific components of the assignment. Please inquire about the topic your son or daughter chose! Presentations begin on Wednesday June 8th-
Mr. Clark: Mr. Clark's wonderful scientist are concluding the last two learning targets for their Physics Unit.
Ms. Pitrone: Foundations of Literature students are currently preparing performance projects for Romeo and Juliet! Performances are on Tuesday, May 31st in class. For the final exam period, we will be holding a "grape juice and cheese" reception/book-signing and reading which will feature student writings that have gone through multiple drafts and are finally in the publication stage. It has been an exciting semester and I have certainly learned a lot from my students.
Ms. Otten: In the Algebra 1 classes, students are finishing up summatives on the six units taught this year. There will be no final in algebra 1, finals time will be used to complete summatives from the last couple of units. If students complete only the first three units, they will be going into Algebra 1 part 2 next fall, which is only a semester class and receive the algebra 1 credit. The yearlong 90 minute class, when completing ALL summatives from the six units, will receive their algebra 1 credit and 1 elective credit with an average grade of 2.5.
If students complete four or five out of six units, they have a couple of options to receive the algebra 1 credit. They can enroll in the competency recovery summer course to complete them.
