3A: A Week at a Glance

week ending December 23, 2015

A Note From Mrs. Adams

Wow! I can't believe 2015 is almost over! I wish you all a very happy and healthy new year and a very happy holiday!!! Let's hope 2016 brings cheer and joy to everyone!

I sent personalized notes to everyone, but another quick THANK YOU to each and every one of you for the holiday gifts! It means so much to me to know that I'm thought of during the holiday season! So thank you for your generosity!!

Just a few quick notes...

I told the kids that they do not have to keep a reading log over the break however they should still read 20 minutes a night about 4 times a week!

If you would like to have your child keep up with his/her writing over the break, I announced to them an "extra credit" writing assignment. They can keep a journal of their time off from school, and the reward is that they will earn 10 stars. The journal should have at least 5 entries, and the entries should be detailed with "small moments". They know what this means... so it is not a list of "I did this, and I did that" but instead is a detailed explanation of five different small moments from their break. I know some of the kids will enjoy this challenge!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me! I enjoy teaching them and they bring smiles to my face every day!!!

Happy holidays and a safe, relaxing new year!

Cause & Effect

We had a fun way to practice cause and effect. They were given a picture of babies and had to draw conclusions about the babies and then create cause and effect statements based on their inferences. For example, one of the babies was holding sunglasses, so an inference cause/effect statement may have been "The sun hid behind the cloud, so the baby took off her glasses." The kids had a lot of fun working with partners and creating these cause and effect statements.

Winter Decorations Cheering up the Elderly!

We met with our kindergarten buddies and made colorful winter decorations. We thought it would be special to donate them to a nursing home, so we reached out to 3A families and found a home with a connection to one of our very own! All of the decorations made by 3A and AM-KW will be donated to Victoria Manor in North Cape May, where Harry and Ozzie's great grandmother lives. They will hang the decorations with the help of their family when they visit "gram" on Friday. We hope it brings cheer to the residents of Victoria Manor and their families when they visit this holiday season.

Move over 2015... Here comes 2016!

We worked on 2016 packets that involved math, writing, and thinking about their future goals. They enjoyed working on these with groups of friends.
