Math: The students are solving number stories through acting out the story, using cubes, counters, ten frames and number lines. They are learning that a number can be broken down into parts through addition and subtraction. It has been exciting to see them represent their math in numbers and pictures.
Writing: Small moments are real life stories that focus on a single moment, told in sequential order, that includes feelings and dialogue. Discuss small moments that happen in your family. For example, going down the slide at the park or eating cake at a birthday party. Ask your child to tell you the story across their hand, holding each finger to tell a detail of the story. This is a skill that we teach them as they prepare to write their small moments in class.
