Words their Way coming this week
Ms. Sullivan created a list of who wanted new stickies for the teaching points in the Reader's/Writer's Workshop. These will be ordered this week, but I need to know if you need both the Reader's & Writers. Please let your ILT lead know and get your order in me by Friday.
SIPPS Cards- I'm looking in to just buying each teacher a complete set of their own SIPPS cards so that people don't need to transfer the cards. I will let you know if this is possible.

For the first week of school, please plan to support your students during first recess until we get our procedures better established.
Cafeteria Table Assignments
Our new food service employee does not know your students names yet so please stay with your students through the food service line to help move students quickly through until she gets her systems in place.
Bus Updates
A hard copy will be in your box also by lunch time.
Attendance First Day of School
Daily Counts- Day 2, 5, 10, 15, 20
Count the students in your class on Day 2, 5, 10, 15, 20.
Every child in the district is counted at the beginning of the year to confirm that the numbers we have in the data system match the numbers in our classrooms. The superintendent reports these numbers to the state and this determines our funding allocation for the year.
1. Do not count absent students, unless they have a verified absence (like you know the child is not coming to school the first week because he/she is out of town)
2. Do not count children who have never come to school or do not have a verified absence.
3. Write you count on your whiteboard by 10:15 (recess time) so that your instruction does not have to be interrupted.
Attendance Going Forward- once we have internet
This may seem bureaucratic and ridiculous, however....
Attendance is linked to school funding. This means that if attendance is done incorrectly, we receive less school funds. This means we have less money for supplies, curriculum and salaries.
In addition, Oakland is heavily monitored by the state for our attendance reporting and we are audited regularly. These audits can produce heavy fines for the district if the reporting is done incorrectly and again this means less resources.
Please let Ms. Brown-Clark or I know if you need help understanding how to do your attendance correctly. Ms. Brown-Clark, our attendance clerk is held responsible for timely and accurate reports. It make her job even more difficult when she has to hunt down folks to do their attendance.
Missing Something?
-the stage
- Annex B (the music room)
- The PTA closet (back of auditorium)
- Dad's club closet (on stage near Coach Jose's room)
Things keep turning up every day....so don't give up hope!
Meet our New Food Service Employee- Ms. Raponza Palomar
Yellow Emergency Box
If you do not have one let Chelsea know by 8/28 so I can order additional boxes.
Emergency Evacuation Procedures- Drill on 8/24
1. Office staff will give you copies of the emergency cards. Please find/make your emergency binder so you can take role at the drill when you evacuate the building.
2. For the fire drill, I will make an announcement over the PA system. If your classroom's PA system is still not working, plan on evacuating at 10am.
3. Report to your class number painted on the pavement where we will take role.
4. Notice any areas of "chaos" that need to be fine tuned and we will discuss on Thursday at our PD.
5. Discuss fire drill procedures with your students in advance. You can use a "looks like, sounds like, feels like" lesson plan and be sure and discuss what to do if you are in the restroom or not in your classroom.
