Can you help motivated HS students?
EHS STEM Academy looking for help with remote job shadows
Hello,
My name is Lea Ann Smith and I am the leader of the STEM Academy at Essex High School. The EHS STEM Academy supports students in grades 10 through 12 who are interested in building a strong foundation in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) content areas and was recently ranked as the 50th-best STEM high school in the nation by Newsweek!
We typically provide students with the opportunity to explore connections across different disciplines through additional experiences such as lectures, field trips, internships, and projects ... but things are different this year!
We have 177 students in the Academy and our greatest need is for organizations that are willing to host students for internships or job shadows. The current COVID-19 situation has made it difficult to place students in job shadows, so we are looking for other ways to provide students with a greater understanding of their chosen career field. Students could participate in remote tours, they could do independent work that was suggested by the host or they could participate in a small number of in-person visits that are supplemented by remote activities. If you have any ideas on how you could help, I am available to brainstorm solutions with you. Please reply directly to this email to start a conversation. You could also email me at lsmith@ewsd.org or call me at 802-857-7213.
Please feel encouraged to pass this email along to your colleagues, or to any professional organization with which you may be affiliated! We look forward to working with you to continue this tradition of excellence.
Thank you for your time and support of the EHS STEM Academy!
Lea Ann Smith
