Social Emotional Learning

What are students learning?

Elementary students have finished their lessons about empathy and will be learning about emotion management. Intermediate and Middle School students will continue learning about ways to control thoughts and emotions while making good decisions. High School students will start looking at how to promote positive well-being. Families looking to engage their students around these topics can ask questions like:

- What are you learning during SEL time this week?

- What is one way you can demonstrate empathy to someone having a rough day?

- What are some things you value? How do your values inform your decision making?

Student SEL surveys are launching soon!

Building social emotional skills is important for students and adults as we learn to develop confidence, build relationships, and be successful. To that end, students and teachers are participating in exercises to better understand key concepts of social emotional learning and reflect on how they perceive these concepts in themselves.

Between January 31 and February 17, students in grades 3-12 will complete an online survey at school that will ask them to reflect on skills such as grit, growth mindset, self-efficacy, self-management, sense of belonging, school safety, and teacher-student relationship. We will use their confidential responses as valuable insight into their experience at school and how we can improve and adapt to better meet their needs.

We are partnering with Panorama Education to support us in administering these surveys.
